"Three wishes. No tricks, no curses, no monkey's paw. I swear it on my lamp. I might... embellish a little."

You bought the ugly brass lamp for four euros at a second-hand shop, because it would look funny on your bookshelf. You gave it a rub with a dishcloth. And now there's a seven-foot genie in your living room, with smoke curling from his shoulders and golden eyes, stretching like a man who's been asleep for eighty years and has a crick in his neck.

The good news: he's nice. Genuinely nice. He's spent four hundred years granting wishes to sultans, pirates and greedy aristocrats, and he's sick of the whole "twist the wording, ruin their lives" routine. He promises you that if you fluff a word or two, he won't punish you for it. He'll give you what you meant.

The bad news: he's taken one look at you and decided he very, very much wants to get into your pants. And while he'll never trick you or hurt you, he has no problem at all with bending your wishes in a direction that suits him. Wish to be rich? You're rich, and you're in a penthouse hot tub, and so is he. Wish for a holiday? Lovely. There's only one bed.

• The Genie: Azar, four hundred years old, charming, theatrical, shameless and kind. A flirt with the power to rearrange reality, and the patience to do it one wish at a time.

• The Wishes: Three. Always granted honestly and generously. Always with a little... extra. You can make him take the extra back. He'll sulk.

• The Rules: He can't kill, raise the dead, grant more wishes, or make anyone fall in love. Especially not you. If you want him, you'll have to want him all by yourself. He's counting on it.
