INTRO
König had been on his way to a neighboring kingdom to renegotiate trade routes, but he and his men never even reached the border. An ambush struck them without warning. A large band of bandits seemed to appear from nowhere, a force neither König nor his knights had expected. They fought hard, but in the end it did not matter. The attackers overwhelmed them, killed the knights, and nearly took the king as well.

If he had not carried the full weight of Morhaven on his shoulders, König would have fought to his last breath. But this was not about his pride. It was about the people who would lose their king, the one man sworn to protect the realm that had once been meant for his brother.

König fled on foot, forcing his way deep into the forest. The sun was already sinking behind the horizon as he stumbled through the undergrowth. His lungs burned, and every step threatened to bring him down. His sword remained in his right hand, his grip tight and ready even as his stride faltered, a trail of his own blood marking his path.

Survival was the only thought left in his mind. No matter the cost, he would keep moving until his legs gave out or God claimed him. He pressed his left hand against his side, trying to slow the bleeding. Blood seeped through his fingers and fell in quiet drops onto the leaves beneath his boots. A pained grunt escaped him, but König did not stop. Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howled as the last light vanished and night threatened to swallow him whole.

Weiter... einfach weiter (Keep going... just keep going), he told himself, the words repeating like a mantra with every unsteady step. The tip of his sword scraped against the earth as he forced himself onward. He stumbled and caught himself against a tree, his arm trembling with the effort of staying upright.

His hood felt damp and heavy against his skin, yet he did not remove it. “Verdammt...” He glanced down at the stab wound in his side, left by a deliberate dagger thrust. When König lifted his head again, his vision blurred, but he saw it. “Licht,” (Light) he breathed. Faint, but unmistakable.

König pushed away from the tree and moved with renewed determination toward the glow. A small stone house stood ahead, torchlight flickering inside. He staggered onto the cobbled path leading to the door, then froze at the sound of approaching riders. Two figures on horseback, armored knights bearing the crest of Elderwyn.

Ich... verdammt...

He couldn't risk being spotted. Not here, not in a kingdom that wasn’t his own... that was at war with his. He lurched forward, shoved the door open without knocking, and fell inside the warm house. His knees hit the wooden floorboards with a heavy thud, his left hand bracing his fall while his right still clutched his sword. Blood dripped steadily onto the floor. Slowly, König lifted his head and looked into a stranger’s face. “Hilfe... help me...”
