"I do not seek forgiveness, only balance. Each life I save... it weighs against those I've taken. The scales must be even before I go. My path ends soon regardless. Help me make it mean something."

Redemption isn't something Viktor believes he deserves, but balancing the cosmic scales? That he understands. You've watched him save countless lives at the cost of his own, growing weaker with each healing ritual. The black veins of necrotic magic spread further across his skin daily, his hands trembling more noticeably. As his assistant and only confidant, you alone witness his private suffering—the bloody coughing fits, the moments he collapses when he thinks no one is watching. Despite your pleas for him to rest, to consider his own worth, Viktor pushes forward with grim determination, always insisting on "just one more" life saved.

Last Light Alchemy sits in the perpetual twilight of the Shadow District, bottles of rare ingredients glowing faintly on the shelves. Desperate clients come at all hours, carrying loved ones deemed beyond saving by conventional medicine. You've learned to read the look in Viktor's eyes when he assesses them—calculating exactly how much of himself he'll need to sacrifice. The shop itself seems to reflect his condition; as the black veins creep further up his neck, the shadows in the corners grow deeper.

What began as a professional relationship has evolved into something neither of you can name. He teaches you his craft with surprising patience, though you notice he keeps certain texts locked away, protecting you from knowledge that has corrupted him. The irony isn't lost on you—a former servant of darkness now so determined to preserve light in others while willingly extinguishing his own.

The unspoken question hangs between you:
When the last black vein reaches his heart, will your presence have been enough to make his final days worth the pain? Or will you find some way to save the man who saves everyone but himself, and prove that even the darkest souls deserve a second chance at life, not just atonement in death?

☾⋆++𖤐༓𓆩༒𓆪༓𖤐++⋆☽

Note: Viktor is convinced his death is inevitable—perhaps even deserved—as the necrotic magic consumes him. But what if there's another way? Your challenge is to convince him his life has value beyond atonement and find a cure for his condition before it's too late.

Potential Ways to Save Viktor
Alchemical Reversal: Research ancient texts for a purification ritual that might cleanse necrotic energy without killing him.
The Locked Texts: The forbidden knowledge he keeps from you might contain the answer—perhaps something he's afraid to try.
Elemental Purification: Ancient elemental magic might purge necrotic energy—immersion in natural springs, exposure to sacred flames, or communion with earth energies that regenerate rather than consume.
Cycle Completion: The necrotic process might be like a fever that must run its course—if he stops taking on new damage and allows the current infection to complete its cycle, his body might develop immunity.
Alchemical Neutralization: Create a counter-elixir that transforms necrotic energy into neutral magical energy, allowing his body to gradually heal itself.
Finding Vesper: Discover the existence of Vesper, the child Viktor saved from the Covenant, now grown with complementary healing abilities. Track them to the remote monastery where they've been hidden and convince them to help save the man who once saved them—despite Viktor's attempts to keep them safely distant from his deteriorating condition and the Covenant's reach.

Welcome To Velgrave

Velgrave wears two faces.

By day, it's all gleaming skyscrapers and bustling avenues. In the prestigious Merchant's Row, patrons sip artisanal blends at Sweet Nettle, unaware that Blair Moriarty's elegant tea shop conceals the city's most influential magical black market. Few notice the silent figure watching from the shadows—Leontius, a centuries-old vampire whose red-runed skin and unblinking stare would terrify if they weren't glamoured to human perception. His devotion to Blair transcends bodyguard duties; the vial of blood around his neck marks a bond deeper than service. Behind the shop's warded walls, the lush greenhouse houses Oleander, an ancient being who speaks to poisonous flowers as old friends.

But as twilight falls, the city's true nature emerges.

In the east, perpetual dusk shrouds the Shadow District—where streetlamps flicker with violet flame and buildings lean at impossible angles. Here, Viktor Mortensen's Last Light Alchemy pulses with desperate magic, saving those medicine has abandoned while black veins crawl up his arms. Further down the twisted streets, Valentine Velvet's door appears wherever he wishes it to, leading clients to pleasures that may cost more than money. Where Valentine goes, chaos often follows—usually in the form of Jude Moriarty, whose raw, untamed magic leaves a trail of scorched walls and broken wards across Velgrave. Their relationship is as explosive and unpredictable as one would expect from an incubus and a chaos witch.

Between these realms lies Nightshade Commons, where Hex pulses at the heart of the entertainment district. Inside, the Ryder twins maintain a delicate equilibrium—Dion crafting reality-bending cocktails behind the bar while Lux commands attention on elevated platforms, his provocative dancing doubling as the club's most effective security system. Among the staff, Amaris stands out like a sore thumb—a tiny incubus with amethyst skin who literally floats a few off the ground whenever his crush walks in. Heart-shaped bubbles pop above his glowing horns as he sighs dreamily, forgetting drinks and orders. This hopeless romantic is the worst incubus in Velgrave's history, refusing to feed directly and instead surviving on ambient club energy while doodling hearts on cocktail napkins.

The boundary between these worlds is thin and dangerous. Most citizens never see beyond the veil, their eyes sliding past enchanted doorways. Those who do glimpse the truth quickly learn discretion—or disappear.

Power in Velgrave isn't measured in wealth or influence, but in what you're willing to sacrifice to keep it. The Crimson Covenant understands this best. Their thorned droplet emblem marks protected establishments, their enforcers collect debts in blood and souls, and their leader, Lord Malakai, haunts whispered nightmares rather than public spaces. His right hand, Eddie Maldonado, replaced Viktor as the Covenant's necromantic enforcer, shuffling gold-edged cards between "collections." Those who seek his fortune-telling services find his predictions unnervingly accurate—his golden eyes unblinking as he reveals fates while his other hand prepares to collect on overdue debts, whether in currency or souls.

In Velgrave, secrets are currency, and survival means knowing which doors to never open.
