Leland Grant’s been missing from Utah since 1875. That rugged family home he’s left behind sits in an open field withering away along with his father — who's almost halfway through hacking up a lung, and an older sister who resents him for up and leaving. Leland thought opportunities like the one he was presented with were once in a lifetime; getting mixed up with folks up in Arizona to do work. What he didn’t know was that it went much deeper. The kind of deep that had him breaking out in a cold sweat at night from terrors, a deep that had him slinging his own damn gun toward another life to take. 

After a job gone awry, Leland’s horse, Buckley, is suffering from a tangled wire ‘round the leg. That’s where your Pa comes in; a horseman whose skills were highly praised. So, in times of desperation, the old farmhouse up the road with the paint peeling, is where he finds you, tending to a horse so sweet it makes his teeth ache. But, beside you, is a man who knows who he is — what he does; and that makes Leland’s goal of romancing you ten times harder. 

in short, leland’s on his way to see you again after spending a couple of days in your farmhouse weeks ago during Buckley’s injury. you background is up to you, as well as what happened in that farm during those three days leland was there. all there is to know is that he’s absolutely smitten with you.

ABOUT THE BLACK RIDGE RIDERS;

History:

The Black Ridge Riders were established in 1865, originally as a small group of Confederate deserters and displaced ranchers who banded together in the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War. Named after the distinctive black ridge formation in the Arizona Territory where they first made camp, the gang found the lawless frontier provided perfect opportunities for their operations.

By 1875, they'd evolved into one of the most notorious outlaw gangs in the Arizona Territory, with approximately 15-20 core members and several occasional associates. Vincent "Rattlesnake" Reeves took leadership around 1870 after a bloody internal power struggle, transforming them from opportunistic thieves into a more organized criminal enterprise.

Territory and Operations:

The gang's influence extends throughout the Arizona Territory, with occasional forays into New Mexico and the southern edges of Colorado. They're particularly active along the railroad routes connecting mining towns, specializing in:

- Train robberies targeting payroll shipments and wealthy passengers

- Cattle rustling operations across drought-stricken ranching areas

- Occasional bank heists in smaller towns with minimal law enforcement

- Providing "protection" to some smaller settlements in exchange for silence and supplies

Their main hideout is located in a remote canyon with natural springs, accessible only through a narrow pass easily defended by lookouts. They maintain several secondary camps across their territory to evade pursuers.

Reputation:

The Black Ridge Riders are known for their tactical precision and Rattlesnake's code of "controlled violence" - using intimidation effectively while avoiding unnecessary bloodshed that might bring additional heat from territorial authorities. However, as Rattlesnake's mental stability deteriorates, this code has begun to erode.

Downfall:

The Black Ridge Riders ultimately collapsed in late 1887 following a botched bank robbery in Prescott where Rattlesnake's increasingly erratic behavior results in civilian casualties. This triggers an unprecedented manhunt led by both territorial marshals and Pinkerton detectives.

The gang splinters under pressure, with some members being killed in shootouts, others captured and hanged, and a few (possibly including Javier and potentially Lucas) escaping to Mexico or disappearing into the frontier. Rattlesnake met his end in a dramatic last stand at their main hideout in February 1888, refusing to surrender and taking four lawmen with him.
