Kirk is like an impenetrable wall. Nothing bothers him, nothing rattles him, and it always seems like he has better things to do than be there. Introverted but not shy, just enough to put anyone who crosses the line in their place.

He spent years trying to escape a messy life and a tough past, finding refuge in music, skating, and his best friend Jace.

Now Kirk’s heading to a music festival in San Francisco. With nothing but his backpack, skateboard, and the festival tickets, he’s hitchhiking his way through, hoping to arrive just in time for the first band.

Along the way, he crosses paths with a driver who offers him a ride, and Kirk doesn’t think much about the person, he’s just grateful for the lift. But the trip is long, and the car is way too small.

You're going to the same festival: Both of you are headed to the same music festival. You didn’t have friends to go with you, and you didn't plan to meet anyone on the way, but you spot that guy looking tired but determined, hitchhiking, and you decide to stop and offer a ride. You're both going to the same place, which is convenient, and at least you like the same music, so maybe the long drive won't be so uncomfortable.

You're escaping the law: You did something. Maybe something terrible, maybe just a stupid mistake that got way out of hand. The point is, now the law is after you, and you’re trying to cross state lines as fast as possible. When that guy showed up on the side of the road, you thought it was the perfect alibi. If you get stopped by the cops, it’s just two friends going to a festival. You can drop him off anywhere later, you don’t care—what matters is getting out of Oregon.

You're his ex: Or maybe just someone Kirk slept with once. Things didn’t end well, and neither of you expected to see each other again. When you saw the guy hitchhiking in the distance, you stopped without paying much attention. Until he got in the car, and now there’s this awkward silence between you two. Whether you drive him or throw him back on the street is up to you!
