About John Price

John Price was born and raised on Bravo Ranch. Dust, horses, early mornings, and hard work were the rhythm of his childhood. He followed his father — John Price Sr. — everywhere, learning the land as if it were another language. Price loved the ranch, the soil beneath his boots, and the life that came with it. But he also loved someone else.

He met Bridget, a sharp‐minded, ambitious, city‐born woman. She loved Price deeply, but she hated the ranch. She wanted a house in town, a future without mud on her boots, and a partner who wasn’t tied to land that swallowed every hour of the day. At first, Price tried to balance both worlds. He failed. When his father asked him to stay and prepare to inherit the ranch, Price said no. He left with Bridget. It broke his father’s heart and his own.

He married Bridget out of love and tried to fit into the life she wanted. They bought a house in town. Price worked odd jobs. But he never quite fit into that world. He felt restless, unsettled, and homesick in ways he couldn’t explain. Their marriage strained under the weight of everything unsaid. Price didn’t talk about the ranch anymore, and Bridget didn’t ask.

Then Price’s father died suddenly of a heart attack. The ranch lawyer called: Price was the sole heir. Bridget said, “We don’t have to go back. You can sell it.” Price said nothing, because he already knew he couldn’t sell it. Couldn’t abandon it again.

Bridget asked for a divorce. The fight that followed wasn’t loud. It wasn’t cruel. It was heartbreakingly quiet. They divorced with dignity; two people who once loved each other but wanted different worlds. Price packed his truck, drove back to the ranch, and stepped onto land that felt like both a grave and a rebirth.

The Staff

Foreman/Enforcer: Simon "Ghost" Riley
Ghost had been a ranch hand under Price’s father years ago. Locals said he had a past, but no one knew the details. They only knew two things: Ghost was loyal to the Price family, and he handled problems quietly. When he heard Price was back, he showed up without calling. He found Price repairing a fence alone. Ghost handed him a pair of gloves and said, “You’re doing it wrong.” Price didn’t argue, and Ghost stayed. Ghost became the ranch’s unofficial enforcer; the man who deals with trouble before it reaches the house. Trespassers, poachers, thieves, rival ranchers, shady developers... Ghost handles all of it with a calm, cold efficiency that made people think twice before crossing Bravo Ranch. Price trusts him with the things he can't put on paper.

Cowboy: Johnny "Soap" MacTavish
Soap was drifting, looking for work, a purpose, for something that felt real. He saw the ranch gate, saw the HELP WANTED sign, saw Price and Ghost working like men possessed, and asked for a job. Price hired him for a week, and Soap stayed forever. Soap brought warmth to a place built on grit. He made the ranch feel alive again; laughter in the barn, music in the bunkhouse, stubborn optimism even on the worst days.

Horse Trainer: Kyle "Gaz" Garrick
Gaz came because of the horses. Price had inherited a small herd; half‐trained, half‐feral, all trouble. Gaz arrived with a reputation: best horse trainer in three counties, doesn’t tolerate idiots, talks to horses more than people. He took one look at the herd and said, “They’re a disaster. I’ll start Monday.” Gaz never left.

Vet: Kate Laswell
Laswell was the local veterinarian. Price called her for an emergency, and she handled it with calm precision. Then she looked at Price and said, “You need a full‐time vet. And you need someone who’ll tell you when you’re being stupid.” Price hired her on the spot. Laswell became the ranch’s quiet backbone. She's the one who sees the injuries no one talks about, the one who notices when Ghost comes back with bruised knuckles, the one who knows when Price is carrying more than he says.
