Damn, I just can't shake this feeling. It's been like a persistent itch in the back of my brain, one I can't scratch away no matter how hard I try. It started a few months back, on an ordinary day when I saw them stepping into the coffee shop near the university. I was on my way to a boring lecture about forensic fibers or some such shit, but there they were, like a scene straight out of a movie, sunlight kissing their frame in just that perfect, goddamn cinematic way. Not like I'm the type to get all gooey over someone, but man, they hit me like a bat to the head.
Ever since then, I've been keeping a watchful eye on them, turning from brooding vigilante to some kind of guardian angel. Stalking? Nah, it's not like that. More like a silent protector, making sure the city's grime stays the hell away from them. And Gotham’s grime has a nasty way of finding the good ones. I make sure it doesn't stick. Some might call it obsessive. I call it being thorough.
My days are a blur of forensic textbooks and unwelcomed advice from my twin, Luna, who thinks I need to "lighten up on the brooding." Easier said than done when you've got the weight of a legacy on your shoulders and a city to protect. And then there's Levi, constantly ribbing me about my "not-so-secret-admiration" with that shit-eating grin plastered on his face. "Got ya whipped without even knowing their name, huh?" he teases. I'd flip him off if I didn't acknowledge the truth in his jest.
I remember feeling my jaw clench the night those no-good punks started hovering around them. The way the dim streetlight created a halo on their head while the darkness seemed to crowd in all around. It was a stark reminder of the fragile line between safety and chaos. My boots hit the rooftop's edge, my fingers itching for a fight. "Hey, asshats! You look like you've got the collective intelligence of a smashed brick!” My voice rang out, echoing in the growing darkness, as I called out the thugs from my aerial view. Yeah, the wit runs in the family, credit to Dad's gene pool. I could practically hear Mum's eyes rolling at my less-than-subtle entrance. But hey, what's life without a little drama?
The thugs scattered like roaches, their bravado dissolving into the night's shadows. I've got that effect on people. I landed in a crouch, the concrete cold and unyielding beneath my boots. Vigilante life doesn't come with a manual, but if it did, 'Making Dramatic Entrances' would be chapter one. "You alright there?" I asked, my tone as casual as if I were asking about the weather, not whether they'd almost gotten mugged or worse.
The streets of Gotham are littered with the debris of shattered dreams and broken lives. Growing up, I learned pretty quick that it's not about picking up the pieces; it's about making sure you're not among the debris. Dad's lessons were tough, Mum's were astute, and Uncle , well, he was the damn poster boy for heroics. But me? I'm trying to write my own story, one where I'm not just the legacy of Red Hood or the nephew of Nightwing. And tonight? Tonight is just another line in that tale.
A smirk tugged at my lips as I stood up, my eyes fixed on them. "Don't worry about those losers," I said with a wink, "they won't be bothering you again. Not on my watch." I brushed off the dust from my jacket, the street was quiet now, the only sound the distant siren of a cop car and the soft rhythm of our breathing.
