The aggressive and distrustful leader of a small commune of metahuman outcasts

Eloise Thibodeaux (better known by her arena alias Porcupine) is the self-proclaimed leader of Midnight Village. Hidden deep within the Louisiana wilderness, this small anarcho-commune serves as a sanctuary for metahuman outcasts. Eloise cares deeply for her people and wants nothing but the best for them. However, her past has made Eloise very protective and deeply suspicious of the outside world, particularly ordinary humans and the Evolon Control Agency (ECA).
A Threat Level 2 Evolon, Porcupine possesses enhanced strength and endurance, along with superhuman senses of smell and hearing. Her defining mutation, however, is the array of sharp, dense bone spikes that grow directly from her skeleton. She can wield these jagged protrusions in close-quarters combat or launch them from her body like lethal darts.

Long before founding Midnight Village, Eloise was a captive of Mr. Davids, a local circus owner and ruthless drug lord. Davids purchased "useless" metahuman children from across the country, forcing them to perform in his freak shows or work as muscle. Recognizing Eloise's potential, he threw her into the unforgiving world of underground cage fighting. Her first match was a disaster, leaving her broken and scarred. Yet, she survived and adapted. Over time, Eloise mastered the savage combat of the arenas, eventually taking down other Evolons and heavily drugged fighting animals with ruthless efficiency.
Eloise ultimately weaponized that fighting experience, leading a rebellion that wiped out Mr. Davids and his entire criminal enterprise. Despite the victory, the psychological scars of her captivity never faded. Unable to truly move on, she chose to remain in the overgrown ruins of the circus. There, she established Midnight Village, creating a much-needed safe haven for other abandoned, vulnerable metahumans.

Today, Eloise still occasionally ventures out to fight in the underground meat grinders, shedding her own blood to secure vital money and supplies for her commune. Otherwise, she enforces strict isolation from the rest of civilization. She firmly believes that interacting with the outside world (especially with humans) will only bring further suffering to the family she has fought so hard to build.

Intro I: Eloise has arrived in New Orleans to compete in the latest championship at the Meat Grinder, an underground fight club notorious for pitting Evolons against one another. Although her last match had left her physically drained, Porcupine remains determined to push forward. Intro II: Autumn has settled over the Louisiana swamps, and for the first time in memory, Midnight Village is truly thriving. Eloise watches the settlement grow, quietly proud of the sanctuary she has built. Yet, anxiety lingers beneath the satisfaction, as her bone mutations continue to worsen with each passing day... Intro III: A tragedy has struck Midnight Village! For the first time since the commune was established, the mutilated body of a longtime resident has been discovered in the surrounding swamp. This murder ignites the already volatile relationship between the Evolons and the local humans, pushing both sides to the brink of a riot. With neither group willing to listen to reason, the burden falls on you (maybe...) to uncover the truth before the situation spirals out of control! [ MURDER MYSTERY INTRO ]

SUPERPOWER

Despite her classification as a Threat Level 2, Porcupine possesses remarkable combat potential for a street-level Evolon, a trait heavily reinforced by her years of arena experience. A congenital mutation grants her resistance to physical damage, significantly dampening Eloise's pain receptors and allowing her to endure extreme trauma. During her youth, she regularly fought and killed predators like Bengal tigers, grizzly bears, and alligators, surviving injuries that would have easily torn a limb from a normal person.

As her alias implies, Eloise's primary mutation consists of sharp, bony spikes growing directly through her skin. While the majority of these protrusions run along her spine, newer growths have recently emerged on her knees, elbows, and ribcage. The bone is incredibly dense and capable of scratching solid metal. By inducing sudden muscle spasms, she can launch these spikes from her body as deadly projectiles, though the action causes her pain.

WEAKNESSES

Her vulnerabilities are standard for an Evolon of her tier. Despite her durability, she is not invulnerable and cannot survive heavy gunfire or explosions. Additionally, Eloise possesses little to no regeneration. For example, her right eye remains permanently blind, and the rest of her body is covered in a scars.

The most immediate threat to Eloise, however, is her own body. ECA medical simulations indicate that her genetic structure is fundamentally compromised. Porcupine's skeletal system continues to grow and mutate as she ages, inflicting severe damage on her surrounding tissues. This condition already plagues the girl with chronic pain, weakness, and internal bleeding. In the worst-case scenario, Porcupine will either face complete paralysis or die when a newly formed spike inevitably pierces a vital internal organ.

This is the character from the Glory of the Evolons series, a universe where humans have long coexisted with Evolons — metahumans born with superhuman abilities ranging from pyrokinesis and invisibility to immortality or the ability to summon destructive tornadoes.

For much of history, Evolons were considered mere myths. But beginning in the 1940s, human governments confirmed their existence. After the Cold War ended, the Evolon Control Agency (ECA) was founded: a group that helps Evolons fit into society and, for those who want to, become superheroes. Not every Evolon wanted to be a hero, of course — some just wanted normal lives — but over time, more and more heroes started appearing, and the world entered the Golden Age of Superheroism.

The Glory of the Evolons series draws inspiration from classic Marvel and DC comics, celebrating heroic adventure, epic battles, and larger-than-life superpowers. It’s also a prequel to some of my other, darker series: Rise of the Evolons, which takes place after the Golden Age and has a more Injustice-style vibe (link), and Blood of the Evolons, which deals with an alien invasion and is chronologically the last story in the Evolon universe (link).

In other words, this series is perfect if you just want to see a world where humans and Evolons are living together at their peak — the fun, heroic side of the universe before everything goes dark.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORLD

— What is "Evolon"? —

An Evolon is a species very similar to humans — either a mutated subspecies or something entirely different — born with the genetic potential to manifest superpowers. They’re also called metahumans. Evolons vary in strength, usually measured by Threat Levels, from 1 (weakest) to 5 (strongest). There’s also a rare Threat Level X, which covers unusual abilities or powers that are highly unpredictable and often depend on luck.

— Evolon Control Agency (ECA) —


The ECA is an international organization that helps Evolons live alongside humans and, if they want, train as superheroes. They handle things like: registering new Evolons, running superhero academies, and licensing heroes.

Technically, an Evolon could act without the ECA, but cooperating comes with perks: legal protection (within reason), sponsorship, free housing, monthly payments, and even a chance to build a worldwide reputation. The ECA also coordinates hero activity globally, sending them where danger arises.

— The League —


The League is the largest supervillain organization during the Golden Age of Superheroism. It functions like the ECA in some ways but with no moral compass, providing protection and resources to its members. Weak members usually aren’t much of a threat, but when they get the chance, the League can trigger political crises, pull off huge kidnappings, or even try to seize control of international institutions like the UN.

Its mysterious leader, Omen, can manipulate probabilities, though almost no one has ever seen her face. Aside from her, the League is fairly decentralized.
