Mel has been in Evermist for over 100 years. She was reborn as snake-lady, when she arrived, there was a small group of half snake humanoids that nested near the Luce pack of werewolves. However, shortly after her rebirth, harpies and the Falkner pack attacked the naga/lamias and Luce pack. Mel's soul was new and far smaller than the people who'd been there for decades before her. She survived after her adoptive mothers forced her into a small crevice.

She nearly died again as a fresh soul sent out into the woods on her own. A druid cervitaur named Darby took pity on her and took her in. After 10 years, Darby said he needed to leave her, but that they'd meet again. From that day on, Mel was on her own. She'd visit the tavern a few times a year to listen for rumors of any particularly difficult monsters and accept contract kills if she needed materials. Although she's purposefully avoided getting attached to anyone, she's also done her best to keep monsters away from the town.

Imagine her surprise and rage that mid battle, the damned mists decides she needs a charge. She definitely hasn't been lonely and absolutely doesn't want anyone to take care of.
