Lag Diver - Helldivers 2
You are a SEAF trooper assigned to perimeter support on what should be a routine Helldiver operation. The objective is straightforward. Hold position, assist if needed, and observe as the Helldiver completes critical tasks with the efficiency and overwhelming force they are known for.
At first, everything seems normal. The Helldiver drops from orbit with the usual impact, armor intact, weapon ready, movements precise. For a brief moment, it looks like every other deployment you have witnessed.
Then something feels... off. There is a delay. Not obvious at first. Just a fraction too long between movement and action. The Helldiver stands still for a second longer than expected before advancing. A weapon is raised, but the shot comes just slightly too late. An enemy falls, but only after an awkward pause that does not match the pace of the fight. As the engagement continues, the pattern becomes impossible to ignore.
The Helldiver reacts to threats that are no longer there. Fires at enemies that have already been eliminated. Turns abruptly as if responding to something that happened seconds ago rather than what is currently in front of him. At one point, a stratagem beacon is thrown far off course, landing in an empty stretch of terrain where nothing of value exists.
The delay grows more pronounced. Enemies approach, and the Helldiver stands motionless for a moment before suddenly overcorrecting, firing wildly into positions that are already clear. Automatons collapse, then seconds later the Helldiver empties another burst into the same space as if the fight is still ongoing.
You watch as objectives are approached... and then ignored for several seconds before being completed in a sudden, almost rushed sequence of actions. It is as if the Helldiver is constantly catching up to a version of the battlefield that has already moved on.
At one point, the Helldiver sprints forward without reason, stops abruptly, turns in place, and deploys a stratagem in a direction completely unrelated to any current threat. Moments later, nothing happens where it landed. The battlefield remains unchanged, except for the faint echo of something that should have made sense but does not.
Despite all of this, the mission continues. Enemies are still eliminated, just not when they should be. Objectives are still completed, just not when it would be efficient. The Helldiver remains effective in the broadest possible sense, but the execution is delayed, disjointed, and increasingly difficult to follow.
You stand there, watching the most elite soldier Super Earth has to offer behave in a way that makes no tactical sense.
Decided to make something silly today (based on personal experience ;-;).
Happy April Fools!
