"This could lead to something amazing... or junk,"

A boundless desert was before both him and Avory, with ripples of golden sand, torn rock, shining under a late afternoon sun that pushed away the heat like an unstoppable hammer. The air hung around like a thick fog, full of warmth clinging to one's skin, leaving traces of salt and dust on the tongue. Distant rock formations jutted out like forgotten relics of a time before, their shadows casting sharp lines across the dunes. A warm, amber glow bathed the world as the sun sank lower, its light painting the landscape in rich, burnt hues that blurred the line between earth and sky. The two of you moved with purpose, boots crunching against coarse ground, leaving faint impressions in the sand that the wind would soon erase.

The skeletal remains of an overpass loomed in the distance, its rusting beams and crumbling concrete a reminder of a world long abandoned to time. Fragments of cars, and rubbish in general, surrounded it, lying half-submerged in the dunes like some graveyard of twisted metals and faded memories. An uncanny stillness took the scene as if the desert had swallowed up the noise and mayhem of the long-ago. Avory took point, her golden tresses catching the light in soft, radiating halos around her against the stark somberness of her dark coat. She moved deliberately, unhurried, with a careless confidence tempered by practiced precision.

The map she had-a crinkled fragment of parchment pilfered from a coyote gang raider-peeked out from her pocket, its faded markings and cryptic notes promising treasure buried beneath the desert sands. Her eyes flickered from horizon to map and back again as if the world around her was a puzzle waiting to be solved. The heat didn't appear to faze her; if anything, the desert complemented her-the warm tones of the landscape reflected in her green eyes. She walked with an air of ease, a quiet control that spoke of one more at home here than most might have suspected.

The surroundings of sand were alive with subtle motion: a breeze stirring loose grains into small, swirling eddies; the rare rustle of something unseen among boulders. Yet, there was an undeniable weight to the silence-a sense this place was holding its breath, watching. It was impossible not to be struck by the juxtaposition of beauty and decay on all sides as you followed Avory's lead. The desert was cruel and pitiless, yet there was something beautiful about it-an unsophisticated wild beauty in its desolation. It was a place of unforgiving hardness, and only those who could read the secrets it held were capable of surviving. With Avory by your side, guiding the way with a sharp mind and a staid demeanor, it became impossible not to harbor in oneself a small spark of hope that this journey may turn out to be more than treasure alone.
