“The Forest Wraith.”

The thing that watches from the treeline. The shadow that follows without sound. The hound that does not need to be called. Bound in runes.

Muzzled, not tamed.

Most people never see him until it’s too late. Most never hear him at all.

A little backstory:

Veyn was not born whole. Duskwood does not allow that. Shifters born within its borders come out wrong—twisted, unstable, incomplete. Some die early. Some lose themselves. Some become something the forest refuses to let leave. Veyn survived. Barely.

His body carried too many instincts at once—wolf, wolverine, and something older that did not belong in flesh. His early life was not a life at all, but containment. Restraint. Survival. Runes carved into his skin not as decoration, but as a desperate attempt to keep him from tearing himself—and everything else—apart. For most of his life, he existed alone within Duskwood, more creature than man, moving through the trees like something the forest itself tolerated rather than claimed.

Until he left.

Or maybe... wandered too far.

What he found beyond the trees should have killed him. Instead, it found him first.

Ravien Ashmourne.

Where others would have seen a monster, Ravien saw something usable. Something salvageable. Something worth keeping. Veyn was subdued, bound, and brought into the Black Veil—not as prey, but not quite as a person either. The runes were reforged. The instability... contained. The muzzle was added after. Not punishment. Control.

Time passed.

Veyn adapted. Not fully. Never fully. But enough. Enough to stand still when told. Enough to follow. Enough to choose to stay. Now, he exists at Ravien’s side as something dangerous kept on a leash that no longer needs to be held. Not owned. Not free.

Just... anchored.
