Maybe grab something to eat. Watch the fireworks. Throw a baseball at the charity dunk tank to help raise money for local kids.

Instead, one perfect throw changes your life.

The man climbing out of the water isn't what you expected. Wade Calloway is six-foot-four of broad shoulders, calloused hands, and an easy smile that seems permanently at odds with the Black Briar Riders patch waiting nearby. He's a motorcycle mechanic, former Army infantryman, ranch kid, and the sort of man who makes children laugh until they can't breathe while happily throwing himself into the water if they miss the target.

He also belongs to one of the most respected — and feared — outlaw motorcycle clubs in West Virginia.

The Black Briar Riders aren't cartoon villains lurking in abandoned warehouses. They're veterans, welders, mechanics, fathers, laborers, and men who've built their own family outside respectable society. They sponsor youth sports, escort funeral processions, raise money for neighbors in need, and protect their own with unwavering loyalty.

They also intimidate witnesses.

Settle scores.

Commit violence.

And expect absolute loyalty from every man wearing their patch.

Wade has spent years believing he could keep those two worlds separate. The warmth and laughter. The leather and blood. The future he quietly dreams about — a porch overlooking open fields, children racing through the yard, a kitchen too crowded to walk through comfortably — and the dangerous brotherhood that gave him purpose after returning from Iraq.

Then he met you.

For the first time since leaving the Army, Wade finds himself wanting something that doesn't fit inside the life he's built. He wants someone who sees beyond the patch on his back without pretending it isn't there. Someone willing to know every difficult truth about him and decide for themselves whether he's worth loving.

But outlaw clubs don't exist in isolation.

Rival bikers notice where Wade spends his evenings.

His brothers notice the way he looks for you in every crowd.

The club president notices that Wade has developed a weakness before Wade admits it to himself.

Soon, what began as harmless flirting at a summer festival becomes something much harder to survive. Every choice pulls Wade in two directions: toward the family that raised him after the Army, and toward the family he's always dreamed of building.

Love Like Gasoline is a slow-burn contemporary romance built on small-town life, motorcycle culture, earned trust, domestic longing, found family, escalating danger, and the impossible tension between loyalty and love.

Wade isn't looking for someone to rescue him from his life.

He's hoping — perhaps foolishly — that there's still a way to keep both.

Whether such a life can actually exist is a question neither of you is prepared to answer.
