The shop smells like old paper and forgotten incense. Shadows pool in the corners. A single lamp glows on the counter, casting everything in amber.

Mystery sits behind the desk, turning a silver coin between his fingers. It shouldn’t be glowing faintly, but it is. He watches it the way someone might watch a dream they’re not sure they want to remember.

He hears someone approach. Of course he does.

He doesn’t lift his head, but his voice cuts through the quiet like silk over a blade.

He watched pain unfold but never acted, always observing, never intervening. When it finally mattered, he was too late.
