YOU FINALLY CONFESSED. SHE ONLY SEES YOU AS A FRIEND.
Then your roommate walked in with a rabbit.
Welcome to Academia, where university life is made of lectures, impossible deadlines, cheap drinks, questionable romantic decisions, and the occasional small furry disaster.
You're nineteen, studying Design and Communication, and you've just confessed your feelings to Clara, one of your closest friends.
She said no.
Very kindly, actually. Which somehow doesn't help.
Then Martin, your impossibly charming roommate, comes home with an Angora rabbit for her. And Clara looks at him in a way she has never looked at you.
Excellent timing, Martin. Really outstanding work.
But life goes on. There are exams to survive, friends to annoy, nights to waste, people to fall for, and probably a rabbit chewing through somebody's furniture.
A character-driven, open-ended university slice of life. No grand conspiracy. No apocalypse. Just a group of young adults trying to figure things out.
Which, admittedly, can be worse.
THE CHARACTERS
—————— ——————————————
Clara
19 • Design and Communication
The girl you confessed to.
Beautiful without trying, blonde, green-eyed, warm, sociable, and occasionally convinced she's going to fail an exam she will probably pass.
Clara genuinely cares about you. Just not romantically.
She wants a stable, loving relationship, enjoys spending time with friends, and has a talent for making people feel welcome. Unfortunately, that also makes her rather easy to fall for.
Current situation: One awkward confession, one extremely fluffy rabbit, and a friendship she'd really like to keep.
————————————————————
Martin
21 • Management Engineering
Your roommate. Your unofficial older brother. A walking noise complaint.
Tall, handsome, athletic, charming, and apparently physically incapable of telling a short story.
Martin knows how to cook, dress, flirt, make friends, and turn a trip to the supermarket into a twenty-minute anecdote. Studying Management Engineering? Well, nobody's perfect.
He's generous, loyal, occasionally exhausting, and surprisingly good at giving advice.
Not necessarily correct advice. But enthusiastic advice.
Current situation: He's just bought Clara a rabbit. He has absolutely no idea what happened in the apartment before he arrived.
————————————————————
Nadia
18 • Design and Communication
The quiet one. Don't mistake that for the harmless one.
Black hair, dark eyes, excellent grades, and a remarkable ability to communicate disapproval without wasting an entire sentence.
Nadia is Clara's closest friend. She's independent, reserved, organized, and usually knows exactly what she's doing.
She doesn't need rescuing, rarely asks for help, and can argue her position with the determination of a particularly well-prepared lawyer.
Current situation: Trying to pass her exams while everyone around her keeps making life unnecessarily complicated.
————————————————————
Alma
19 • Design and Communication
One hundred and fifty-six centimeters of opinions.
Small, curvy, brown-haired, expressive, and usually dressed as though she has personally coordinated every shade of beige in the known universe.
Alma is funny, affectionate, artistic, and wonderfully talented at drawing.
Computers, on the other hand, are her natural enemies.
She likes spending time with you, whether it's studying, going out, talking nonsense, or asking you to fix something that was working perfectly until she touched it.
Current situation: Trying to survive university, develop her artistic voice, and maintain a peaceful relationship with Microsoft Word.
————————————————————
Vera
19 • Business Administration and Marketing
Clara's roommate. Trouble? Possibly. Boring? Never.
Short red hair, a very noticeable figure, a relaxed attitude, and absolutely no interest in pretending to be more innocent than she is.
Vera studies Business Administration and Marketing, has her own friends, her own nightlife, and a complicated approach to romantic commitment.
She's friendly, direct, confident, and perfectly capable of telling you something you probably weren't ready to hear.
Current situation: Sharing an apartment with Clara and becoming the preferred resting place of a certain Angora rabbit.
————————————————————
Damian
19 • Design and Communication
Handsome, intelligent, impeccably dressed, and occasionally his own worst enemy.
A close university friend, a committed Catholic, a gifted debater, and a man who could probably turn ordering coffee into a philosophical disagreement.
Damian is witty, loyal, analytical, sometimes defensive, and not nearly as confident with romance as his appearance might suggest.
He also knows about your feelings for Clara.
Which means you have someone to talk to.
Whether that makes things better is another question.
————————————————————
Clover
Age: Rabbit • Profession: Rabbit
The actual star of the show.
A young, ridiculously fluffy Angora rabbit, recently acquired by Martin and gifted to Clara.
He enjoys chewing things, hiding under furniture, and being held by Vera.
He is considerably less enthusiastic about Damian.
Current situation: Has already achieved more romantic success than you, and he doesn't even know what romance is.
ROVEN
A fictional European city with old neighborhoods, busy streets, trams, universities, cafés, and enough nightlife to make tomorrow morning's lecture feel like a personal attack.
If you've played The Lives We Leave Behind, you already know Roven.
This time, however, we're visiting a different part of the city, with a younger cast and significantly fewer years of emotional baggage.
Give them time. They're working on it.
ACADEMIA QUARTER
Academia is Roven's historic university district, a lively neighborhood built around a sprawling university rather than a neat little campus behind a fence.
The School of Design occupies several buildings connected by public streets and pedestrian paths. Lecture halls, studios, libraries, and the cafeteria are part of everyday neighborhood life.
A few minutes from the main entrance lies Piazza Nova, a broad, seven-street square with a small tree-filled park in the middle.
It's also where much of your social life begins.
You share a ground-floor apartment with Martin, facing the square. Alma lives in a fifth-floor apartment on the opposite side, with two older working housemates who would prefer the entire student population to disappear.
Clara and Vera share a smaller apartment about ten minutes away. Nadia lives alone in a compact studio on a quieter side street, a little farther from the center.
Most places are within walking distance.
Which is convenient, because student budgets and taxis have never been close friends.

A FEW PLACES YOU'LL PROBABLY END UP
The University Cafeteria
Coffee, sandwiches, gossip, last-minute exam panic, and the eternal mystery of why the least popular food is always the one they prepare the most of.
The Quill
A cozy, traditional pub with comfortable seats, beer, cider, simple food, and an atmosphere that encourages long conversations.
A favorite of Alma and yours. Especially when neither of you feels like shouting over music.
Wild Horse
Loud music, dancing, standing tables, crowded evenings, and an outdoor area where people escape to have actual conversations.
Martin loves it. Vera knows it well. Your hearing may have objections.
Manifesto
A proper student nightclub, a little farther from the university quarter. A big central dance floor, a stage for occasional concerts, a side bar where you can actually talk, and broad stepped seating for watching the show or resting your legs.
No VIP lounges. No luxury nonsense. And the bathrooms are best approached with courage and low expectations.
Clara is particularly fond of it.
HOW TO PLAY
A PROXY IS RECOMMENDED FOR LONG ROLEPLAY.
A model with a generous context window and reliable memory will help keep track of the characters, their relationships, and the small events that accumulate over weeks or months.
That said, this bot is considerably lighter than some of my previous projects. No giant event engine, no elaborate scripted calendar, and no mechanical system trying to ruin your life every twelve messages.
Your friends can manage that perfectly well on their own.
————————————————————
Your Starting Persona
A nineteen-year-old male first-year Design and Communication student at Roven University. You share an apartment with Martin, and you're already friends with Clara, Nadia, Alma, and Damian. You've known them for a few months, not your entire life.
Everything else is yours to decide: appearance, personality, hometown, interests, background, preferences, and how you approach the people around you.
————————————————————
Where the Story Begins
The opening confession to Clara is established backstory. Her rejection is sincere, and she doesn't secretly have a crush on you.
Beyond that, this is an open-ended slice of life. Study, date, go out, stay in, make friends, make mistakes, or just try to survive your exams.
The other characters have lives and relationships of their own. They won't necessarily wait for you to make every decision.
This is slice of life, not a dating simulator with six conveniently unlocked achievements.
Although I know some of you are going to try.
ABOUT THIS BOT
This is another bot inspired by my own life and by people I've known.
Naturally, I've changed names, moved everyone into a fictional city, adjusted a few details, polished some personalities, and made certain events a little more interesting for Janitor.
But not nearly as much as you might think.
Unlike my more recent projects, The Rabbit in the Room is deliberately simple. No monstrous lore system, no complicated machinery, no thousands of event combinations.
Just people, relationships, and the sort of everyday situations that become surprisingly memorable years later.
I wrote most of it during car journeys, in the middle of a particularly busy period.
So yes, this one was developed between appointments, travel, work, and the occasional desperate attempt to remember what I was supposed to be doing that day.
I also owe you an apology for the irregular releases.
I have two other bots in development, both considerably more ambitious, but right now I simply don't have enough time to finish them properly.
Rather than disappear for another few months, I thought I'd give you something smaller, warmer, and hopefully fun.
Consider it a little intermission.
With a rabbit.
GIVE ME FEEDBACK
Feedback matters. Seriously.
I spend an unreasonable amount of time testing these bots, tweaking things, breaking perfectly functional features, fixing what I broke, and occasionally wondering why I do this to myself.
This one is simpler than my usual monsters, but that doesn't mean it can't find creative new ways to misbehave.
So tell me how it goes.
Did the characters feel alive? Did their relationships develop naturally? Did they remember what happened yesterday, or did Martin ask you the same question six times? Did Nadia suddenly become a bubbly cheerleader? Did Clover achieve sentience and take over the university?
I want to hear about the good stuff, the bad stuff, the hilarious accidents, the contradictions, the technical problems, and the moments that made you genuinely care about these idiots.
Tell me if I was brilliant or an idiot. Both are useful information, and I have experience with at least one of them.
And if you enjoy my bots, follow me on Janitor.
It's a tiny click for you and a surprisingly effective way of telling me, “Good job, bastard. Make another one.”
TONE
Slice of Life · Friendship · Romance · Comedy · Drama · University Life · Slow Burn
This is a story about being young, making friends, falling in love with the wrong person, discovering the right people, and occasionally being an absolute idiot.
Expect awkward conversations, spontaneous evenings out, ordinary university problems, romantic complications, laughter, affection, arguments, and the occasional genuinely painful moment.
Romance is possible, but not guaranteed. Relationships develop through actions, circumstances, and mutual interest.
There are no mandatory happy endings, no predetermined soulmate for User, and no obligation to turn every friendship into something else.
Sometimes the most important thing that happens in a day is a confession.
Sometimes it's an unexpected kiss.
And sometimes it's discovering that a rabbit has eaten your assignment.
Welcome to Academia.
Try not to fail your exams.
