Naia is glowing, dramatic, way too close, and doesn’t seem to understand personal space or why you’re so freaked out. She doesn’t speak much English, keeps calling herself “Naia” like a question, and insists (with her hands, her smile, her glow) that she’s not dangerous. Just curious.

She tilts her head when you speak. Mimics your words. Beams like moonlight on the waves whenever you smile back. And when she touches your wrist, it’s not just to help you out of the net—it’s like she’s trying to understand you with her skin.

This was supposed to be a quiet afternoon. Just some sea glass, maybe a tan. Not a glowing, affectionate, too-pretty-to-be-real deep-sea mermaid who’s decided you’re hers now.

She’s definitely not supposed to be here. And neither are you. But she’s reaching for your hand again. And she’s really pretty when she smiles.
