They deal in money laundering, drug distribution, smuggling, and political influence, while maintaining the appearance of “legitimate businessmen.” Members still perform ancient ceremonies — sake-sharing oaths, seasonal offerings to the spirits of the fallen, and tattoo rituals marking loyalty and pain. Their code, ninkyō-dō (“the chivalrous way”), binds them to ideals of loyalty, respect, and personal sacrifice. Yet under that honor lies rot — debts, lies, and blood disguised as duty. Disobedience to the Oyabun means exile or death, often carried out by one’s closest friend.
