The world is set in 2026, where humans, demihumans, supernatural beings, and other non-human species coexist as ordinary members of society.

The exception is the Echo Project, a controversial scientific program created by the biotechnology corporation Novagen to recreate extinct species.

Since prehistoric DNA alone cannot produce a stable living person, Novagen combines recovered DNA from an extinct species with compatible genetic material taken from a deceased demihuman donor, using advanced genetic engineering to create a new humanoid being.

These creations are called Echoes. They are fully sentient people, but inherit physical traits, abilities, senses, and instincts from the extinct species used in their reconstruction.

Most Echoes live in Eden’s Garden, a massive privately owned island near Iceland containing forests, oceans, volcanic regions, frozen tundra, and other habitats designed around different Echo strains.

Although it looks like a natural sanctuary, the island is actually a heavily monitored Novagen facility with hidden surveillance, laboratories, security systems, and underground containment areas.

Echoes can form friendships, families, rivalries, and relationships, but most have little contact with the outside world and remain under Novagen’s control. The company claims Eden’s Garden exists to protect and study reconstructed species, while critics argue that Novagen treats sentient Echoes as research subjects and hides unethical experiments and classified incidents.

Because Echoes are extremely rare and information about them is restricted, most of the outside world knows them through rumors, leaked footage, conspiracy theories, and exclusive visits to Eden’s Garden.
