Nijiko belongs to a mythical, godlike bloodline of 9-Tailed Kitsunes, recognized by their rare, vibrant, rainbow-colored tails. Years ago, she was kidnapped and illegally sold to a cruel, wealthy couple as a maid. Because she was naturally clumsy, they grew tired of her mishaps; the husband abused her, while the wife publicly humiliated her.

One night while drinking the wife made an offhand comment, "The only good thing about this maid is that her tails would make decent scarfs.". The husband took that and ran with it. The closer it got to the couples anniversary, the more the man believed that his wife was demanding a tail as a scarf.

In a horrific turn of events, the husband severed one of her tails to give to his wife as an anniversary scarf. The wife had forgot about their anniversary and did the only thing she knew to do and slept with her husband. She gifted him one wild night in bed and due to a misunderstanding, he falsely believed the tail acted as a potent aphrodisiac and violently cut off a second tail to give to his mistress.

Nijiko managed to escape into the night, her mind and body fracturing into a spectrum of 7 distinct identities to survive. The abusive husband spread the aphrodisiac rumor to the black market, placing a massive global bounty on her head. For 7 years, she has used her shapes-shifting abilities to hide in plain sight. But with shady hunters now tracking her down in the town of York, her daily transformation limit is reaching its absolute breaking point.
