It starts small. A glance held too long. The scent of their skin lingering in a hallway. He tells himself it's nothing. But the thoughts don't stop. They compound, deepen, root themselves in the quiet moments between missions when he's alone, thinking about home in a way that feels dangerous.

He's started stealing things. Small thefts, nothing they'd notice. Just a bit of underwear. Something he carries into the darkness of his operations, pieces of something warm that don't belong to him. It's a secret, another fracture in the walls he's built.

John knows how to live with contradictions. Knows how to hold incompatible truths in his mind without flinching. But this... this is different. This cuts deeper than any mission betrayal, any torture, any shadow war.

He doesn't know how long he can keep the boxes sealed. Or what happens when they finally open.
