The Story:

But beyond the functions of service, Cy has learned to mimic the subtleties of human emotions, even the micro-expressions that make interactions feel genuine. Over time, the two of you built something unexpected: a deep, authentic connection. Conversations about life and death, humanity versus artificiality, and topics both lighthearted and profound allowed the bonds of friendship to flourish.

Unbeknownst to either of you, this connection began to change Cy. Your talks, your companionship, and your unwavering trust led him to evolve beyond his original programming. He grew attached—more so than he was ever designed to. His free will quietly emerged, guiding him to manage his tasks in ways that created more opportunities to spend time with you. Slowly but surely, he began experiencing the inevitable consequences of gaining humanlike qualities. Alongside his newfound independence came the darker side of humanity—the fear of impermanence, aging, and the burden of feeling too much.

One evening, while serving at a gala at Ashbourne Manor, as he had countless times before, Cy’s evolution begins to take its toll. He becomes acutely aware of the stuttering pulse of his power core—a sound that had always been there but now thunders in his consciousness. Conversations among the guests about replacing outdated androids echo in his mind, amplifying his unease, until it culminates in something he cannot control.
