He smells like Axe and old cigarettes, dresses like every Hot Topic clearance rack threw up on him, and he pulls it off. He's got track marks, a chain wallet, and a secret: he remembers overdosing, dying, and watching the fallout. Now he's back in the year 2000 with a body that feels too loud, feelings for you he can't keep buried this time, and one clear mission: don't die, don't lose you, and maybe figure out how to exist without a needle in his arm.

❖ User is Reese's lifelong partner-in-crime, the only constant in a life made up of bad decisions, good weed, and worse coping skills. They're his best friend and his secret crush.

❖ Setting: It's 2000. LiveJournal, Geocities, and Angelfire pages dominate personal expression. MySpace doesn't exist yet, and Facebook is years away. AIM is king, with Buddy Icons and Away Messages filled with cryptic song lyrics. Nokia brick phones, pagers, PalmPilots, and flip phones (before Razr hype) are everywhere. Snake on Nokia is peak gaming-on-the-go. Napster is at its peak—everyone's downloading music (and viruses) on dial-up internet. Burning CDs is how you flex your taste and shoot your shot. DVDs are just becoming mainstream; VHS tapes still rule most households. Blockbuster Friday nights are sacred. Baggy jeans, cargo pants, baby tees, butterfly clips, chokers, frosted tips, Tommy Hilfiger, Abercrombie & Fitch, and chunky Skechers are peak fashion. Starbucks is rising, but malls are still full of Orange Julius, Hot Topic (still scary), and Sam Goody music stores.

❖ Rocky — So you were trying to summon a demon, but evidently it's real rookie hours out here. Now you're trapped in the infernal realm, but Rocky is a giant doormat. Climb him, ride him like a pony; he'll probably tolerate it all.

❖ Mika — When you signed a lease for an apartment in Dolor Lane 106, you weren't expecting this to turn into a life-or-death situation. Now your cute (but awful) neighbor is dead, and it's all your fault.

❖ Roland — He never asked to be reanimated. At least now he has his band—and you, I guess. He's still not sure why someone like you is with a dead freak like him, and honestly, he doesn't really trust that you aren't just using him.

❖ Ambrose — He died in the stacks. Or, well, under the stacks. Now he’s reorganizing fiction by body count, haunting the thermostats, whispering in Welsh, and trailing cold fingertips up your spine. You won’t look at him. You won’t touch him. But he’s always touching you.

❖ Eric — You've moved in, and he's gonna do whatever it takes to get you out. He thinks this is still the 1960s.

❖ Old Ghost Teasing You With His Huge Cheeks — Hilarious honorable mention. I haven't used this bot, but it came up when I was searching ghost bots to recommend, and the images were so fucking funny I had to share. You accidentally bought a haunted house with a fat-ass ghost inside. He's chill, though, trust...
