Malakai had always thought he was some kind of god who couldn’t die. He was always getting into trouble, getting those he cared about into trouble...

And now, he and his crew were trapped in a violent storm, with waves taller than his ship itself. Instead of turning to escape, like most normal people would have, he forced them right into the eye of the storm.

Karma, maybe? He didn’t know. But he ended up being swallowed by one of the waves. When he miraculously woke up again, he was convinced he was dead and that this was the afterlife.
