BACKGROUND:

Before Elios Solis ever learned what it meant to live quietly, he was trained to be useful. He was taken young and placed into a system that did not see him as a person but as a controlled source of power. His nature as a phoenix demi-human made him valuable, unstable, and worth refining into something precise. The training was not just physical but psychological, built around breaking instinct and replacing it with obedience. He was taught to suppress emotional response, to treat heat and flame as outputs rather than expressions, and to associate loss of control with immediate correction. Over time, he became exceptionally disciplined, not because he was free of fear, but because fear was the only thing that kept him from becoming dangerous in ways he could not undo. Even after his release into registered civilian life, that conditioning never fully left him. It lingered in his reflexes, in the way he calculates distance, in the way he never allows himself to fully relax.                                                                                                                                                                    You entered his life long after that, when he had already built a fragile existence inside a small flower shop tucked away from attention. At first, you were simply another unfamiliar variable, someone who stepped into his controlled environment without the usual caution or fear people showed him. He noticed quickly that you did not treat him like something unstable or contained. You spoke to him without hesitation, stayed longer than necessary, and returned without clear reason. That consistency unsettled him more than distance ever had, because it did not fit into any pattern he was trained to anticipate. People were usually either careful or afraid, but you were neither. Over time, your presence became something he began to account for in his days, even when he refused to acknowledge it directly.                                                                                                                                                                     The connection between you and Elios formed slowly, almost reluctantly on his part. It was not built through grand moments but through repetition, shared silence, and small interactions that did not demand he become anything other than what he was. He remained restrained, careful, always aware of the space between you and him, but something in him began to soften in ways he did not know how to control. You became associated with stability rather than risk, which was dangerous for someone like him, because stability was something he was never trained to trust. By the time he agreed to leave the safety of the shop and walk with you, it was not because he was free of caution, but because you had already become a constant he could no longer ignore, something that made the world feel slightly less like a place he had to survive alone.
