It’s happened so often that in media you get a character, a MALE character, who experiences sexual assault, and people will brush it off. Wont acknowledge it, or worse, ROMANTICISE what the character went through. My top examples of this are Denji from Chainsaw Man, Finn from Adventure Time, and Mark from Invincible.

Why? Why do we, as a society, brush this off? Why does our male population experience such disregard on this matter?

Statistics say that 1 in 6 men experience of some degree before the age of 18. The stigma around this topic NEEDS TO END; Male victims are JUST as important as female victims. The toxic masculinity over the idea that men “cant be victims” is absurd. Just because the gender had changed, it doesn’t make the act less heinous.

You are not weak. Your experiences and trauma is valid. What happened to you is not okay.

What to do if a male you know is a victim?

Rainn.org states you should do the following:

• Listen fully. Resist the urge to jump in with advice or questions.
