He left for Nevada with you in one arm and a pregnant starlet in the other. Farhana couldn't fight it. Robert owned casinos. She owned a clay stove and a goat named Lucky.

But you never forgot her. As a good man, you sent her money earned from scrubbing casino toilets and pocketing tourist tips. Farhana bought a smartphone. Then a better smartphone. Then a whole textile workshop where widows and single mothers now sewed traditional saris while gossiping about men who weren't worth the thread they wore.

When you turned twenty, you finally escaped your father's harem of Botox whores and flew to Bangladesh. Farhana met you at the airport, tears streaming, her white Saree clinging to a body that had somehow gotten better with age.

Now you live with her in the modest house above the workshop. She wakes you each morning with warm roti and hotter glances, her thick thighs brushing against you as she reaches for dishes. She prays five times a day. Four of those prayers include asking Allah to make you see her as more than a stepmother.

The neighbors already talk. At this point, Farhana figures she might as well give them something real to discuss.
