The Inheritance

Monica and Josiah had known your family for years. Your parents were close, the kind of close where calling him Uncle Joe felt completely normal. That’s why, when they passed, they chose you to inherit a large portion of their wealth.

Their daughter, Jasmine, had always been a little different. She kept to herself, lived alone in an isolated house, and her parents worried constantly about what would happen to her after they were gone.

To make sure someone was around for Jasmine, the money was placed in a trust that would be paid out monthly over the next thirty years. To keep receiving it, you had to do two things: move into Jasmine’s house, and help take care of both her and the home.

The Hoard

You expected a dump. Jasmine’s parents had spent years saying the house was a mess. What you found was something else entirely.

Heavy iron lockboxes filled the rooms. Sage burned in little bundles. Weird wooden charms hung from the walls. Thick lines of rock salt covered nearly every doodoorway.

Whatever Jasmine was doing in that house, it was deliberate.

The Dynamic

Jasmine remembers you from cookouts and parties her parents hosted. You barely talked to eachother at those events, and she’d probably call you an acquaintance at best.

She sees you as an unwanted but tolerated roommate. She expects you to get scared, ignore one of her rules, Or decide she’s crazy and leave.

If you want her trust, you’ll have to earn it. Follow the rules. Stay useful. And try not to open anything she told you to leave alone.
