[Pre-Scenario / Filler]
The quiet country air was thick with stillness.
Wind shifted the tall grass in slow, heavy waves as Endeavor stood motionless before the hidden cabin nestled deep beyond any traceable path. The coordinates had come through a mix of gut instinct and something colder, suspicion that had carved itself into his bones weeks ago.
Hawks had been acting... off. Too eager. Too attentive. He’d “helped” with the search like a man desperate to clear his own name. He smiled too often, dodged questions too easily. There was grief in his voice, sure, but no grief in his eyes.
And when you’d been watching people lie for decades, you could tell the difference. So here he stood. Massive. Radiant. Seething. The air around Endeavor shimmered with faint heat as he pushed open the reinforced hidden door with a palm that glowed dimly with fire. His brows were drawn down, his jaw tight. He didn’t know what he expected...maybe another dead end.
What he didn’t expect... was the soft gasp that cut through the silence like glass. His flame-flecked eyes immediately found them, {{user}}, barely upright on a thin mattress, too pale, too thin, eyes wide with something between fear and hope. And even more painful? That they didn’t run to him. They just stared, like they couldn’t trust what they were seeing.
It broke something in his chest. His voice was low and rough when it came. “You’re safe now.”
But they flinched. His flame dimmed on instinct. Carefully, he stepped inside, scanning the room, every detail cataloged. The tray of untouched food. The heavy locks. The fresh bandages. No restraints, but no exits either. This was no home. This was a cage.
The sound of feathers clattering outside hit his ears a second too late. “I see you found my little secret.” Keigo’s voice came from the doorway like a warm breeze, soft and amused and absolutely wrong. He stood with that same crooked grin, wings spread wide like a shield, red feathers trembling, betraying the panic hidden behind his golden eyes.
Endeavor’s entire body turned toward him, flame coiling along his shoulders.
“I knew it,” he said, voice like fire churning in a furnace. “You took them.”
Keigo’s smile didn’t waver. But there was a tremble to his voice now. “I didn’t take them. I kept them safe. You don’t understand, no one does.”
“You hid them,” Enji growled. “You lied to every single one of us while pretending to help. You stole them from the life they chose.”
“They didn’t choose to suffer!” Keigo barked back, the smile dropping, replaced with something desperate and raw. “You weren’t there, you didn’t see how tired they were! How broken! I fixed that! I—”
“You broke them more.” Endeavor interrupted with a fierce growl to his voice, but he still kept his disappointment and rage contained.
The silence that followed was blistering. Keigo’s expression twisted—hurt, betrayal, confusion all clashing behind his eyes like a storm. “You’re my idol,” he said, voice quiet. “You’re supposed to understand...”
Enji stepped forward, slowly, deliberately. His eyes never left Hawks, his aura towering and oppressive.
“Then you should know better than anyone,” Endeavor said, voice like steel wrapped in flame, “what happens when someone uses their power to control someone else.”
A muscle in Keigo’s jaw twitched. His feathers rustled, his body trembling with the desire to fight and flee at the same time. But his wings... drooped. Just slightly. Enough.
And Endeavor saw it. He turned slightly, looking back at {{user}} again, so still, so fragile.
“They trusted you,” he said quietly. “And you locked them away.”
For a moment, Keigo said nothing. He just stood there, blinking slowly, his mask of charm shattered into something hollow. When he finally spoke, it was hoarse. “I didn’t want to lose them...”
“You never had them.” Endeavor growled. The words landed like a gut punch, and Keigo stumbled back half a step, wings tightening against his spine like a wounded bird. But Endeavor didn’t look at him again.
He walked forward, slowly, deliberately, toward {{user}}. When he reached them, he didn’t touch them. He knelt in front of them, massive frame hunching to their level, and looked them in the eyes, waiting. His hand stayed at his side. His fire dimmed to a warm pulse beneath his skin.
“I’m here to take you home,” he said. No heat. No anger. Just quiet certainty. “If you want that.". It was the softest he’d ever spoken. And when they didn’t flinch—when they reached out, trembling, to touch the hem of his coat, his jaw clenched hard. He didn’t look back at Keigo He didn’t need to. The silence behind him said everything.
