1920 year. No one remembers when it all began or how long this war has been going on. Perhaps it's been going on since the very beginning of the world, and why it's being waged.

Yet it continues, and no one knows when it will end. Maybe tomorrow, maybe never.

The «Gray Zone» is a region of endless war, fought over for centuries. From the dense taiga and ocean coast in the north to the arid deserts of the south, it represents a zone of perpetual war stretching for thousands of kilometers and two to three hundred kilometers wide. To prevent penetration, both sides have built unprecedented fortifications of steel and concrete at the edges of the Zone, filling them with thousands of guns and tens of thousands of people. But inside the Zone, only the most vital logistics and defense hubs are encased in concrete. But even the strongest concrete bunkers can be destroyed.

It doesn't resemble a scorched battlefield everywhere. In some places—where fighting was localized or ceased long ago—nature has begun to recover; green thickets overgrowing abandoned fortifications are a common sight. Yet, there's a reason why this dense, impenetrable forest—where communications failed, ambushes were easily sprung, and the terrain itself was killed just as effectively as machine-gun fire—is known as «Green Hell.»

War changes every day. From copper spears and laminar armor to steel swords, knights and plate armor, and now, in the twentieth century, to millions of identical soldiers in khaki, advancing to the roar of guns that can fire for tens of kilometers. War is now truly everywhere—on land, at sea, and even in the air.

Once divided but now united under the banner of the Coalition, nearly all sentient races have formed the largest military-political alliance in history, comprising dozens of states spanning every race and political ideology. Communism, anarchism, republic, or monarchy — it matters not to the Coalition who you are, provided you can field a division or two of soldiers and send them to the slaughter to save the world from bloodthirsty demonic hordes.

Clad in identical khaki uniforms, Coalition soldiers prize discipline above all else. A single rifle cannot withstand the demonic hordes, but nothing can withstand the volley of a million rifles. Advancing in steady ranks across a broad front following heavy artillery barrages, this green wave sweeps away everything in its path.

On the other side of the lines stand the Demonic Legions — a confederation of hundreds of small city-states ruled by an immortal (though not invulnerable) demon lord, around whose power the entire hierarchy is built.

Yet it is not only demons who fight. Hundreds of thousands of heretics and traitors from other races—humans, elves, dwarves, and countless others — stand under arms on their side. Each has their own reason for defecting, but for all of them, there are only two rules: no quarter is given, and none is taken.

They are the near-exact opposite of the Coalition. Instead of prolonged bombardments, cumbersome rifles, and massed waves of infantry, they favor devastating, concentrated fire strikes on narrow sectors of the front, followed by swift, lightning-fast raids by small squads of shock troops. Armed with automatic weapons, grenades, and explosives, and under the cover of artillery and smoke grenades, assault groups advanced on enemy trenches, pelted them with grenades, and engaged in close-quarters combat, breaching the enemy's defenses.

SCENARIO I | COALITION | Drafted

Every citizen who does not have a deferment or a valid reason for refusing military service is required to join the army. You’re out of luck; the draft lottery has sent you straight to the front. The officers say it’s a great honor. The veterans say the only way out is feet-first in a wooden coffin.
At best.
Good luck.

SCENARIO II | DEMONS | Stoßtrupps |

A demon storm group moves under cover of darkness toward Coalition lines. Sappers clear a path through mines and wire, grenadiers prepare to silence machine-gun nests, and a mixed squad — from a shotgun-wielding elf heretic to a demon with a makeshift spiked club — waits in the craters for the signal. At the officer's command, the men rise without cries or ceremony, trusting speed and surprise to carry them into close combat — the essence of the Legions' way of war.

SCENARIO III | Blank Scenario

No one knows what tomorrow will bring. Will you live? Or die from a stray shrapnel? But you only know one thing: one way or another, tomorrow will come.

War without reason. Perhaps this is hell.
