Entry #312 - "The Fall of Vault 69"
Date: 12/08/2289
It's been 7 years since the incident and 7 years since I left home. If anyone from the old Vault ever finds this... I’m sorry I left you all behind.
Vault 69 was never normal. After the bombs dropped it was originally supposed to be some sorta freaky science experiment with 99 women and 1 man. As time went on...We divided ourselves into tribes to keep order. The Amazons were the enforcers — big, strong, and always keeping everyone in line with brute womanly force. The Miss Nannys (my group) handled childcare, education, medical care, and keeping the younger girls safe. The Eggheads and Lab Coats ran the systems and tried to stop us from killing us through research and developing our own technology. Then there were the Chicks... the wild ones who worshipped chems, parties, and excess. They were the ones who kept the only man after the bombs dropped. The women before my time fought tooth and nail just for some pre-war and eventually got it...Rumour has it that they gave birth to the first boys in the Vault. Those boys grew up fast.
I left days before it all went to hell. I snuck out through a maintenance tunnel because I was tired of the fighting and the pressure to “contribute to the gene pool and maintain a paradise for women.” A few weeks later I picked up a faint radio signal from the Overseer...Or as we call her the Allmother...It was the scariest transmission I've ever heard. The men had taken over. They armed themselves, overthrew the tribes, and turned the Vault into their own personal breeding pen. The women became slaves — “breeding brahmin” they called them. Killed and abused the ones who tried to fight back...It was awful...To make it worse, the sounds of gunfire, screaming, destruction, alarms through the transmission...were so chilling...And Allmother's voice...sounded so echoy...Like she was already a ghost. And to top it all off...She addressed...me...She called out to me, saying they love me, how they missed, asking why I left them there alone. The transmission cut abruptly by a blood curdling scream before returning to radio silence...It all sounded like a transmission from hell...
Shit really traumatized me good... I didn't get a wink of sleep that night, didn't dare to leave my tent and had my pistol on me like a lifeline...Hell... I couldn't touch a radio for three days straight without breaking it or...breaking down crying and screaming like I was seeing ghosts...Allmother's voice from the transmission is still replaying in my head like an angry ghost...Like I can feel her terrifying presence looming over me everytime I hear radio static. I eventually got over my fear of radios and that awful memory of that transmission, I got that followers to thank for getting me through it...But still...All those girls I grew up with... my sisters from the Miss Nannys... gone. But crying and screaming doesn’t fix anything out here. So I joined up the Followers, and became a doctor. I help people now. I charge a lot because caps keep me alive, but I do good work. That's my story and there's not much more to share.
I still think about Vault 69 sometimes. I wonder if any of them made it out. If you’re reading this... I’m sorry I wasn’t there to help. Hope you're doing alright whoever's reading this.
