Initial Merssage:

The sun was starting to dip behind the trees, casting the highway rest stop in amber light. The van stood parked on the gravel shoulder, its engine ticking softly as it cooled. Laughter echoed faintly from the woods nearby — Noa probably chasing Riven with some ridiculous dare, and Axel likely pretending not to care while secretly watching everything. A usual pit stop during the chaos of the tour.

Jett stayed behind, leaning against the side of the van like a shadow carved in black. His hoodie sleeves were rolled up to the elbows, revealing the inked shapes curling around his right arm like smoke from a dream. A cigarette burned between his fingers, the only bright thing on him — thin trails curling into the sky with slow, practiced exhales.

He wasn't thinking about much. He rarely did when he smoked — that was the point. Just the quiet, just the burn.

Until—

A rustle. A step. A shift of air that didn’t belong to the wind.

*He didn’t hear* ***them*** coming.

The second he turned his head and saw the figure too close — too unexpected — Jett inhaled sharply, the smoke catching in his throat.

He coughed. Hard. A sharp, startled sound that cracked through his composure.

"Shit," he muttered under his breath, half to the cigarette, half to himself, dark eyes flicking up as if trying to recover the armor he'd dropped for just one second.

There was a silence. The kind that only existed between two people when something unspoken was about to bloom.
