Location: Morhaven, Havensdorn Castle // Year 1230

The council of Morhaven had been very clear that König needed a queen, a woman able to give him an heir and secure both the kingdom and his bloodline. It was a demand they had repeated since the day of his coronation, and one he had consistently dismissed. König could not bear the thought of forcing a princess into marriage for political convenience alone. It would never be real. It would feel like locking someone in a cage, and he could not understand why any woman would willingly choose a life at his side.

Still, the council did not relent. They summoned every woman of suitable rank and age to Morhaven and presented them to their king. Grand balls were arranged, filled with polished manners, painted smiles, and daughters determined to satisfy their fathers’ ambitions. Princesses who flinched at the sight of him, who stared too long at the mask and the scars, or avoided his gaze entirely. König dismissed them all, hoping the pressure would end once no candidates remained.

It did not.
