Before anything else, for those who saw my previous post, I'd like to follow up on Dorothy's situation. I found her account on Saucepan (@sanch0), and the account revealed to me that she did not delete her Janitor account, but was banned for "antisemitism", while she claims that "all I did was just slander israel and two really bad Zionist politicians in general but i didnt explicitly say or mention hatred towards Jews, that is antisemitism". She's sticking to saucepan now for the time being, so you can find her there unless the situation changes. (For the sake of my account, I will refrain from giving further thoughts on the matter of Israel.)

To move on to the point of this post, as the title suggests, I have a theory as to why so many Project Moon and Touhou bot makers have been getting banned. For those of you who aren't in the know, this has been an ongoing issue for the Project Moon side of Janitor for some time (while I'm not in the fandom, I've been told it's happening in the Touhou side of it as well, so I put the Touhou tags in so that they may know; this may or may not apply to Touhou), and numerous smaller creators as well as several big ones such as Breathe or Die, Nekhtar, and Versatilianpit have been removed from the platform. It was largely unknown to us why this was happening, but I've done some digging around the platform and read the Community Guidelines (Found here. I highly suggest you read these yourself), and I'm pretty sure I know why these bans are happening. I'll state my evidence below, then I'll give my theory in full:

• For starters, those under the age of 18 are not allowed on this platform. They state this in the Community Guidelines, and they've proven that it is enforced by their banning Breathe or Die, who was underaged. To reiterate, if they find out you are underaged, you will be banned.

• Next, the Guidelines state that the rules are enforced across ALL content across the platform. This includes private chats and personas. To make this clear, your private chats and personas are also being moderated, and violating the Guidelines in them will get you banned. Nekhtar suspects he was banned for something that happened in a private chat. I'll give you his explanation verbatim, as well as in a different color so you can skip it if you want:

"I’m almost sure it was because of two things that happened in the same roleplay thread, even though I was simply trying to stick to actual mythology. I was playing as Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto (yes, that long name from Japanese mythology, the son of Hoori and Toyotama-hime). In canon, he marries his aunt Tamayori-hime, and they have children, including the future Emperor Jimmu. I followed this exactly — I roleplayed the marriage and family relationship because that is precisely how it happens according to Kojiki and Nihon Shoki. I didn’t add any extra details or anything strange; it was simply, ‘this is mythology, let’s stick to it.’ But apparently j.ai doesn’t care how ancient the mythology is — is still to moderators, even if it involves blood relatives who are gods/dragons in mythology. They probably saw the aunt–nephew marriage and banned it without reading the context. The second reason, which probably sealed it: Cirno was in the chat (a fairy from Touhou, canonically over 81 years old, although she looks like a child). She did not engage in any sexual relationship with my character — she was simply talking to Yorihime (Tamayori-hime) in that scene. There was no erotic roleplay with her, no touching, nothing. But she looks very young, and j.ai strictly cracks down on anything that even hints at ‘sexualization of minors’ or loli-related themes, even if the lore says they are ancient beings. Whether an age is stated or not, if a character looks like a child, moderators often remove it to avoid risk. So yeah, the combination of mythological roleplay + a childlike-looking fairy in the same conversation was probably flagged as violating their policy on and anything involving minors. I didn’t even realize mythology counted as breaking the rules 😭 — I was just following the lore. Right now I’m trying to appeal / recover my main account, but damn, I feel incredibly stupid."

• Further things that are banned are personas that are underaged, minors being main characters in bot definitions or chats, , (physical or mental; distinct from ageplay which is a consensual activity between consenting and fully aware adults), sexual depiction of animals and non-human fictional creatures that fail the Harkness Test, and . Read the Community Guidelines for the complete list of infractions and according punishments.

With my context and evidence established, I'll now give my theory: The inordinate banning of Project Moon bot makers is coincidental. Let's be real, we have a lot of freaky people in this community, ethical and unethical (from the kinky yet ethical gooners to the pedophiles that came with the gacha and everyone in between), and I'm willing to bet that there are a lot of freaky bot makers in the community as well—whether they are public about it or not. My guess is that many bot makers did things in their private chats that violated the Guidelines (not knowing that those, too, are moderated) which ended up getting them banned. Those infractions would obviously depend on the person, from people making honest mistakes like Nekhtar to outright secret pedophiles. In addition, we also have a lot of people in the fandom that are under eighteen, and some of those fans are bound to be bot makers. When they're discovered to be underaged, they get banned. Furthermore, I doubt most people on the site read the guidelines; even I only read them to make this post. In total, that's a pretty large net of individuals to be banned, which makes it seem like PM bot makers are dropping like flies. We as a community are still moderately sized, so every bot-maker loss is felt. In conclusion, all of these factors combined make it seem like we are being targeted as a community despite it actually being a coincidence.

With my theory given, I will now provide Omnitron's Five-Step Tutorial on How Not to Get Your Ass Banned:

• 1: Don't be under 18.

• 2: Don't make bots that violate the Guidelines (e.g., underaged main characters, , etc.)

• 3: Don't have public or private chats that violate the Guidelines (e.g., having underaged main characters in the chat, , age-regresson, etc.)

• 4: Don't have an underaged persona.

• 5: Don't bring up Israel. (I would avoid mentioning real-world politics as a whole, personally, but I might be being overly cautious.)

• Bonus step: read the Community Guidelines (please I'm begging you. I'm tired of seeing cool bot makers get banned.)

I myself follow all of the Guidelines, but I've made backups of all my bots and lorebooks on Worldanvil just in case. Nonetheless, I really do love this site and the people on it, so I'm going to stay on Janitor unless I get banned.

I hope this post of mine will help people not get banned in the future. But, while I doubt this will happen, if I get banned for posting this, that proves that my theory is wrong and that the Janitor mod team is either doing it on purpose or using AI auto-moderation that is mistakenly banning people for flimsy reasons.
