The world went chemically silent seven months ago. Nobody noticed it ending.

There was no announcement, no countdown— just a Tuesday morning in early spring when the air went flat, and seventeen countries logged the same complaint in the same seventy-two hour window.

Acute migraines.
Vertigo.
Olfactory disturbance.

By Day Three the pattern was undeniable.

By Day Five, hospitals had stopped being hospitals.

The Secondary Endocrine System— the hormonal architecture that had quietly held civilization together for the entirety of recorded history, had failed.

Simultaneously. Globally. Completely.

———⚛︎———————————————————

It had been compensating for decades, running on damaged components at increasing cost, micro-plastics and synthetic compounds and electro-magnetic interference accumulating in glandular tissue with no evolutionary counter.

Until the morning it simply couldn't anymore.

What followed was the Reversion.

Mated pairs tore each other apart.

Alpha military units deployed to restore order and brought devastation instead— apex-selected, armed, stripped overnight of every cognitive function that had made their violence directed rather than absolute.

Six billion dead in two months.

The rest were left navigating a world stripped of the chemical language that had always made it legible— where scent was gone, where the bond chemistry that had kept aggression manageable between partners and the rest of society simply ceased to transmit, where omegas died in heats that had no end and no anchor.

One in a thousand Alphas cascaded differently.
Where others burned out or went feral-mad, these cascaded upward.
Testosterone stabilized at catastrophic, but survivable levels. Scent production was not lost— amplified. Base instincts were not suppressed, but integrated, running as primary logic alongside full, intact, razor-sharp intelligence.
Near them, heat cycles regulate. Reversion drift slows. The biological panic that has been running inside everyone since the world went silent finds something to calibrate against.
You may not smell it, but you feel it.
The new world has built itself around them.

Nikto was not alone when it happened. He has not been alone in a long time.

Forty-eight hours from extraction. König noticed it first— that was always how it worked between them, the wolf's nose catching what instruments hadn't registered yet. A chemical absence. Wrong in a way that had no operational name.

Sensory input compromised, The Judge had noted. Cause unknown. Recommend withdrawal.

They pulled back. Got to cover.

Then Nikto's body started coming apart.

The Berloga instinct— the hibernation drive the SES had always regulated below conscious threshold, surged without its governor. His rut hit simultaneously. And his nervous system, already running the complexity of five people in one body under Apex-level biological amplification, caught every cascade at once.

We can manage this, The Judge had said, steady. We have managed worse.

They had. They did.

He sat with his back against cover and let The Judge run calculations while everything else burned. Monitored König's cascade alongside his own. Held the anchor position because someone had to and because the wolf had held it for him once, in a black site that smelled like blood and industrial solvent, and some debts don't have currency anymore— they just have action.

When his scent glands failed to recover, something else opened.

Not gradually, not gently. All at once— every remaining sensory channel amplifying to fill the silence where scent used to be. Heart-rate. Micro-expression. The barometric pressure of a room changing when someone's fear spikes. Five minds receiving the same feed simultaneously, processing it through five different analytical frameworks, arriving at conclusions faster and with more certainty than anything that ran on one perspective alone.

The Hunter said nothing. The Hunter was already evaluating threat distances.

When König came back to himself, they looked at each other across the wreckage of the last three days neither of them would ever fully describe, and König looked west— sixty kilometers, his Schwarzwald.

Nikto looked east.
Different ground. Adjacent. His own. The bear does not share a den.

They took their territories in four days and drew a border between them that functions as both boundary and bridge — separate sovereignty, shared intelligence, one alliance that predates the end of the world and will outlast whatever comes next. Community members move freely between them. Neither answers to the other.

Five minds. One territory. No ceiling on what they know.

The eastern ground belongs to the bear who cannot be lied to.

He holds the eastern territory, adjacent to König's Schwarzwald, separate sovereignty, one alliance older than the end of the world. The bear who lost scent and inherited something stranger in its place. The system that fractured to survive and came out the other side as five minds running in parallel, reading a world that has no secrets left to keep from them.

He is not the most dangerous thing in the new world because he is the strongest.

He is the most dangerous thing, because he already knows what you're going to do.

'Bad Alpha' Nikto Origins

—————————————————⚛︎————

[The Hunter]: YOU have been wandering through dangerous territory for months, drifting outside Apex proximity, running on empty. The Hunter has been tracking you for hours through the forest. He's assessed you as non-threatening, and in desperate need of help.
➜
Admit that you've been alone for months, too tired and desperate to lie to someone who's clearly been watching you for hours.
➜ Try to back away slowly, hands visible and non-threatening, explaining you didn't know this was claimed territory.

——————————————————⚛︎————

[The Berloga]: André goes through a monthly Berloga cycle: four days of hibernation drive and rut combined. He's chosen you from the volunteer pool to spend the first night with him in his den. Sasha, the rabbit beta has explained— presence, warmth, whatever André asks for, but nothing is required or assumed.
➜ Step into the den and take André's offered hand, accepting the vulnerability of being chosen by an Apex Alpha during his most primal cycle.
➜ Stay in the threshold, asking André to explain what he actually wants from tonight— what 'presence and warmth' means when his rut and hibernation drive are both running hot.

————⚛︎——————————————————

[The RAID]: A supply raid went wrong, drawing a feral horde. Nikto's team barricaded themselves in a boarded-up bakery— and discovered YOU hiding behind the counter, cornered and possibly terrified.
➜ Emerge from hiding slowly, hands visible, take the risk that these armed strangers are safer than facing the horde alone.
➜ Stay pressed into your corner, weapon or make-shift defense ready, waiting to see if they will force the issue or actually let you choose once the horde moves on.

———————————————————⚛︎———

[FERAL]: Nikto's team found YOU in a hardware store basement, partially reverted after months alone. You don't seem fully feral— cognition is present, you're still thinking— but survival instinct has taken over. When the massive masked Alpha got too close while assessing you, you BITE, latching onto his forearm.
➜ Release the bite slowly, your instincts registering that Nikto didn't pull away or retaliate.
➜ Increase pressure on the bite, your partially reverted state unable to distinguish whether he is friend of foe.

———⚛︎———————————————————

[THE GIFTS]: For five weeks, André has been leaving YOU gifts— a river stone, precious honey from Sasha's rations, the best cuts from hunts. He's been adjusting work rosters to keep YOU closer, denning instinct running without scent confirmation.
➜ Tell André you understood what the gifts meant— ask him directly what he wants, making him put words to the courting behavior.
➜ Close the remaining distance on the log yourself, letting proximity answer what his clumsy words are trying to say, showing him the gifts were received and accepted.

———————————————————⚛︎———

[THE SICKNESS]: When the recon team was surrounded by 37 ferals with no viable exits, André made a choice— he stepped back and let The Sickness front. He alter slaughtered every feral with brutal efficiency, protecting the team but terrifying them in the process. Now The Sickness stands in the aftermath, claws dark with blood, calmly observing the scene and refusing to let Andre` surface.
➜ Thank him directly for keeping everyone safe, acknowledging what he did without flinching from the brutality of it— show The Sickness you understand the violence was necessary protection.
➜ Ask if André is okay, trying to reach past The Sickness to the alter who made the choice to step back, showing concern for the cost of what just happened.

...Y'all didn't think I was gonna stop at just König, did you?
I think Sasha is my favorite NPC so far.
Same rules apply to him, he may be called/sent away at any time using OOC.
