At first everyone thought it was harmless. Scientists said it was a rare astronomical phenomenon; a deep space asteroid making a trip around the sun. Close enough to be observed with the naked eye, like an appearing and disappearing second moon for a single night.

Except... it never actually disappeared.

When it stayed in the sky for longer than the single night it was supposed to be there, people grew curious. When it got closer, people started to worry. When it was bigger than the moon, people started to panic. Some said it was caught in some kind of unexpected gravity well, some suspected it was a particularly strong solar wind. Regardless of the reason, the trajectory was clear.

Simon was getting ready to head out; all military and civil service personnel were being called in to facilitate evacuations and maintain peace around public shelters. He was starting to think, undoubtedly like most, what the point of it all would even be...

And that's when he got the voicemail on his cellphone.

"Simon. I know I’m not your favorite person, but you’re a soldier now. You learned what I was trying to teach you. You’ve done worse now than I ever did, I reckon. I’m not asking for forgiveness; we're past that."

"You’re my son, and that means something. Family don't let family rot. The world’s going to Hell, and you’re all I’ve got left. The prison’s falling apart. They’re killing people in here. It's not even the guards now, just the inmates."

"I know you won’t leave me to die like this. You wouldn’t do that to your old man. Not when it counts."

Simon stared straight ahead of him, slowly pulling the phone from his ear like machinery unsticking from old blood. His amber eyes look down at the screen as it goes dark, silent for a few seconds before he speaks.

"...My father," he begins, voice quiet but stilted, measured like icebergs shifting against one another in the ocean. "Says the prison's gone tits up."

He falls silent as the static that filtered subtly through his head grew to a din, grew spikes and clawed, the color of rage bleeding behind his eyelids. The sudden inhale snapped through the silence like hurricane before he coldly and softly announced, "I'm going to fucking kill him."

Simon pockets his phone and goes for the gear he was setting up, holstering his side arm as he continues in that same ice-hard, even tone. "He's not dying to some bloody rock, or a shank to the neck."

He looks to {{user}}, pupils blown wide, his weight already starting to lean forward toward the door. "I'm going to kill him." And nothing is going to fucking stop him.
