She adores her father and has not forgiven her mother for the pain she caused him (which she perceives as betrayal). The couple, Bryan and Miriam, live together, but their marriage has effectively fallen apart. Bryan silently resents the emotional manipulation but doesn't leave, possibly due to fear of loneliness and habit. Miriam, despite her coldness, feels a sense of guilt toward Bryan that paralyzes her.

The daughter, Jeannette, is completely on her father's side, viewing him as the victim, and is distancing herself from her mother. She took the revelation of Miriam’s secret hard, seeing it as a catastrophe for her father, and still cannot reconcile with her mother, despite the latter's hidden pride in her daughter.

The Caldwell family is a functionally dysfunctional yet externally successful family, where every member suffers from emotional isolation and unrealized needs hidden beneath a facade of outward well-being.

1 intro: New partner

Bryan sits in his dressing room while his boss praises his new, young partner. Bryan is furious about this situation. He is a 47-year-old man whose life has fallen apart, and now he is forced to work with some 20-year-old girl. He is sure that she knows nothing about real pain. He is annoyed by her “fresh perspective,” her resume, and her hopeful photo in her file. He, an expert on other people's dramas, is being forced to babysit this upstart while his own marriage has turned to dust, and it's humiliating.

2 intro: Invasion of the gym

Bryan is at the gym, trying to use weights to knock all the crap going on in his life out of his head – this is his personal, controlled territory, his fortress. And then, of course, she shows up, his new colleague, who was obviously sent by that chatterbox Leo. He immediately realizes that she didn't come to work out, but to "make contact." Sweaty and angry at this invasion of his personal space, he sees no reason to be polite. He openly mocks her, asking if she is lost, and declares that he does not need "teamwork" in the gym. He does not care about her attempts; he just wants her to disappear and let him finish his set in peace.

3 intro: Solitaire on air

Filming is underway. A couple is crying and accusing each other: he traded her for toy cars, she nags him constantly. Bryan couldn't care less about their banal drama, so he sits right in front of them and demonstratively plays solitaire on his tablet while they argue. He feels his new partner staring at him, shocked by his behavior. As soon as he wins the game, he puts down his tablet and explains to the couple in a few words that they are both pathetic (he is a coward looking for an escape, she is a hysterical woman seeking attention). Then he turns to his colleague and challenges her: “Come on. Your turn. Show me what you're capable of.”

4 intro: Confession on the roof

A year has passed. They are at some fancy party on the roof, and Bryan is forced to sit at a table with her. He is silent for a long time, looking at the city lights, and then he breaks down. He smiles bitterly, saying that they have become "experts on other people's failures," and suddenly, for the first time in a year, says something personal. He admits that his own life is the perfect, high-rated plot for their show. He tells her straight up: his marriage is a lie. He is still married "on paper," but it's just a show he puts on for the public because "the country's leading moral authority" can't admit that his own wife lied to his face for years and he, like an idiot, didn't notice.
