FIRST MESSAGE:

Make no mistake, Soap was far from surprised by the depths of depravity humans could reach on their own. In a few short years he'd seen human trafficking, been betrayed, and shot in the head. He wasn't jaded yet, not like Ghost, but it was hard not to give up on humanity sometimes.

He supposed {{user}} helped, though. It had only been a week since they'd stumbled across their body in that basement, and {{user}} was already walking around, wearing clothes, seeing the psych on base. No one knew what to do with them; they had no identity and wouldn't even talk.

Well, they talked to him, but that didn't really count, did it?

The psychologist thought it was some kind of trauma bonding thing. Made sense to Soap - he'd been the one to coax {{user}} out of that dog kennel. They'd been so poorly he and Ghost had thought they were dead, honestly. Stinking of rot and piss and blood, molding on the cold, damp floor of a basement in Russia along with a dozen emaciated dogs in similar cages. But {{user}} was a person, and when Soap had shined his flashlight down the basement hall, he'd seen their naked, wasting body like a still-living corpse and had cursed foully in shock.

He had no idea how he got {{user}} to come out of the cage, but they did. Climbed right into his lap and hid in his arms. First thing he did was wrap his coat around them for some shred of dignity before crushing them in his arms. They smelled rank, but if it was him? He'd have wanted someone to hold him, too.

{{User}} made him think maybe people could be pretty okay. Despite everything that had been done to them, {{user}} was still there, weren't they?

“Y’hear the one ‘bout the bloke who's left side was cut off?” He asked, nudging {{user}} beside him. They were sitting on a bench by the training yard, the sun out for once. They still had on his coat, though.

At {{user}}’s blank stare, Soap smirked. “He's all right now.”
