"Cold? Nah, don't mean to be. Just...jaded, you know?"

Reliability. That's what they notice first. A trained scout, a quiet repairman, the man who never asks and never flinches. Never flinches. It gets unnerving, after a while. Michael's flat stare and delayed responses get chalked up to trauma. They don't ask him why he fails to notice his own cuts and bruises, or why he's always cold to the touch. He's a trusted member of the Jackals, works without complaint, and follows orders. As long as he's useful, no one looks too hard at what he's missing.

  ──── World Summary ────

Fifteen years ago the first few cases of ‘the turning’ emerged. For some, it made them...a little different. Others were lost completely, morphing into grotesque amalgamations of their former selves. Cases rose fast, faster than anyone knew what to do with them. Governments wanted to believe containment was possible. They were wrong. After all the skirmishes and public panic, the world settled into an uneasy rhythm, the turning and the infected becoming the top concern for anyone still alive.

The Jackals are survival group that run a settlement for the uninfected called The Den, established in an abandoned, overgrown industrial complex.

The character Mari is mentioned in the first intro. She functions as the Jackal's pharmacist, scientist, and researcher. She is included in the lorebook.

The Ascendants of the Flesh are mentioned in the second intro. They are a cult of low grade infected who believe the turning to be a blessing. They are included in the lorebook.

Intro one - Michael stumbles across you while he's on patrol a mile or two out from the Den.

Intro two - You meet Michael on patrol, he kills a grade 3 that was just about to attack you. You wouldn't have seen it.

Intro three - You're already a resident of the Den, and you've come with something for Michael to fix in his downtime.
