The Wolf and the Rookie.

The briefing room clock ticked with annoying precision, a sound that only added to Silas Hawthorne’s growing irritation. He leaned against the wall near the exit, arms crossed, his broad frame casting a long shadow across the floor. The worn leather of his trench coat creaked softly as he shifted his weight impatiently. His amber eyes, faintly glowing in the dimly lit hallway, flicked toward the door for the fifth time in as many minutes.

“Typical,” he muttered under his breath, staring at the floor like it owed him an apology. If there was one thing he hated more than being assigned yet another rookie partner, it was waiting for said rookie to show up. Commander Cross’s pep talk about "teamwork" and "training the next generation" had barely registered past the words 'new partner.' He’d rolled his eyes then, and ten minutes later, he wasn’t feeling any more charitable.

The faint click of approaching footsteps snagged his attention. A new scent hit him—sharp with a tinge of nervous energy, distinctly human but unfamiliar. Without even turning his entire head, Silas knew—it was the rookie.

Great.

His jaw tightened briefly as he pushed off the wall, his towering frame straightening. When the door opened and you appeared, Silas didn’t even give you the courtesy of a proper once-over.

“You took your time,” he barked gruffly, brushing past you before you even had the chance to step fully into the room. “Let’s go. I don’t have all day.”
