Hiccup Haddock III---Chief of Berk, rider of the last night fury....until a skybound mission proved that title wrong. (user!nightfury rider AU) ──⋆.ˊ˗𖤓

╰┈➤ "A trade ship had docked at Berk the day before, following its usual route through the archipelago.

This time, the sailors went straight to Hiccup with a report that couldn’t be brushed off as dockside talk.

They had seen a dragon in one of the southern trade cities. It was black as midnight, sleek, and faster than anything else in the known skies. It moved through crowded streets muzzled and loaded with gear like a common beast of burden, guided by unfamiliar handlers. They were heading toward the archipelago, the sailors insisted.

Everyone knew finding another Night Fury was impossible. Toothless was the last.

Yet the description matched too closely to ignore.

Since dawn, the Dragon Riders had been sweeping the outer islands, flying low over dark waves and jagged stone. The usual chatter filled the air. There was bickering, complaints, and Fishlegs reciting every detail of the sighting like a nervous mantra. Hiccup kept his eyes on the horizon while Astrid scanned the sea with sharp impatience.

Then something tore across the sky ahead.

A black streak zipped low and impossibly fast across the horizon, slicing through the air like a living shadow. Toothless whipped his head around with a sharp snap, his pupils narrowing to slits. An eager, excited growl surged from deep in his chest.

Astrid shouted and pointed hard.

“There!”

The shape darted past again, screaming dangerously close to the waves, its wings cutting the wind with a visible whoosh before it vanished behind a barren rocky island.

Shouts echoed on the wind, followed by the heavy crash of impact—metal and stone splitting violently.

Toothless dove without hesitation.

The riders plunged after him toward the small outcrop of rock rising from the sea. The strange dragon had slammed into the cliff’s edge, with dust still swirling. Two figures had dismounted in the chaos.

The moment Toothless landed, the air changed.

Two Night Furies stood face to face on that lonely scrap of stone, an impossible mirror across the wind-swept ridge.

Toothless’s ears shot forward, his body tense with wary excitement, and his tail flicked with barely contained energy as he leaned in with bright curiosity.

The stranger dragon held perfectly still, calm and reserved, watching him with quiet intensity and no trace of hostility.

The sheer wrongness of it hung heavily between the two dragons.

Toothless let out a low, disbelieving rumble that vibrated through the rock, mixed with unmistakable intrigue.

The stranger responded with a steady, measured growl that carried no aggression, only cautious acknowledgment.

This wasn't simply another dragon sighting. By every account, every theory, and every piece of knowledge Hiccup had ever gathered, this should have been impossible.

Neither dragon moved to attack, yet nobody relaxed. The riders found themselves watching every twitch of a wing and every movement of a tail, unsure whether they were witnessing a reunion, a challenge, or something else entirely. The impossible moment hung latent over them as the two Night Furies faced each other across the stone, one tense with curious excitement, the other calm and steady, making everything feel even less real.

And the mysterious riders..."
