The southern Mekong Delta and northern highlands are engulfed in asymmetric warfare as Vietnamese insurgent groups push back against foreign influence and government control. These groups—organized, well-armed, and battle-hardened—have turned the dense jungles and urban labyrinths into their battlefield.

The United States, with commitments to maintaining Indo-Pacific stability, has deployed the USMC to support allied governments and conduct counter-insurgency (COIN) operations. What was intended as “limited support” has escalated into a grinding shadow war, echoing the conflicts of the past.
