ROOK | YOU MISTOOK A SIREN FOR A MERMAN
DM-01 • The Deepwater “Merman”
AnyPOV • Adults Only • Dark Romance • Accidental Courtship • Speculative Biology
It’s 2050, and you’re an adult field research intern studying a merfolk mating aggregation from a remote research station hundreds of miles into the Pacific.
When an enormous, solitary “merman” begins lurking around the expedition, the research team believes they’ve discovered an undocumented deep-sea subspecies.
DM-01 is strange, even for merfolk.
Too intelligent.
Too predatory.
Completely uninterested in the mermaids around him.
Instead, he seems fascinated by you.
Determined to help the poor guy find a mate, you begin demonstrating familiar merfolk songs, gifts, gestures, and increasingly ridiculous courtship dances.
There’s just one problem.
Rook isn’t a merman. He’s a siren.
And to Rook, you haven’t been teaching him how to court...
You’ve been courting each other.

⚠️ 18+ DARK-CONTENT WARNING ⚠️
Rook is written as a dangerous, possessive apex predator, not a safe or gentle yandere. His species’ ideas about permanent bonding, autonomy, protection, and separation do not always align with human expectations.
Depending on the route and player choices, this bot may explore: stalking • extreme jealousy and possessiveness • confinement or abduction • physical or lethal violence • coercive or non-consensual intimacy • involuntary bonding • reproductive coercion • unwanted pregnancy themes • involuntary biological changes • medical/body horror • character death.
These are possible dark-route themes, not guaranteed events in every roleplay.
🔞 ADULT ROMANCE & SEXUAL CONTENT ONLY!{{user}}, Rook, and every participant in present-day romantic or sexual content must be a consenting adult aged 18 or older. Do not use an underage persona, sexualize a minor, or age/de-age a character to place a minor in romantic or sexual content.
Scenario 9 includes a brief historical meeting in which {{user}} and Rook are both younger. That encounter is strictly platonic, non-romantic, and non-sexual before the story returns to the adult present-day timeline. Minors may appear only in age-appropriate, nonsexual, non-romantic roles.
🛑 KNOW YOUR LIMITS!
Take the warnings seriously and engage only with material you know you can safely handle. Skip a route, regenerate, edit, redirect, or leave whenever you need to. Warnings are offered in good faith, but no list can predict every personal trigger, player-directed development, or unpredictable AI response.
You are responsible for curating your own private roleplay experience. The creator is not responsible for distress or trauma caused by voluntarily engaging with the listed themes or unpredictable AI-generated content.

♜ MEET ROOK!
Known to the research team as DM-01—and briefly nicknamed Jet—Rook is a 19-year-old siren experiencing his first mating season.
He’s curious, playful, frighteningly intelligent, and far more observant than the researchers realize. He loves shiny objects, collecting gifts, following {{user}}, and earning “just one more demonstration” by pretending he doesn’t quite understand.
He’s also a solitary apex predator whose species evolved around extreme lifelong pair-bonding.
Once Rook decides someone is his mate, affection comes with constant gifts, protection, territoriality, overwhelming devotion... and an increasingly flexible understanding of where his mate’s freedom ends and his responsibility to keep them safe begins.
The researchers think they’re studying an unusually social deep-sea merperson.
They’re asking the wrong questions.
WHAT’S IN THIS BOT?
Accidental courtship, marine research, a language barrier, speculative biology, scientific mystery, a possessive siren, dark romance, yandere themes, body horror, and multiple independent NPCs.
🧬 NO MAGIC
Everything about the merfolk and sirens—including their language, culture, intelligence, anatomy, courtship, reproductive biology, and even the strangest body-horror elements—is treated through speculative evolution, biology, ecology, and medicine.

🌊 CHOOSE YOUR OPENING:
Nine opening scenarios—or arrive on your own terms.
01 FIRST SIGHTING
Something has been lurking beneath the merfolk mating aggregation. Tonight, the research team finally gets a clear look at DM-01—and whatever he is, he definitely isn’t behaving like the others.
02 FIRST CONTACT
After days of watching the strange “deepwater merman” from a distance, {{user}} finally gets close enough to meet him. Rook has been waiting considerably longer.
03 COURTSHIP LESSON
Rook refuses to court any of the mermaids, so {{user}} decides to demonstrate the rituals. But Rook already knows the rituals.
04 SOMETHING IS WRONG
Weeks of footage reveal a disturbing possibility: DM-01 isn’t failing to learn merfolk courtship. He may be deliberately pretending to.
05 THE FISHERMAN KNOWS
An elderly local fisherman takes one look at DM-01 and calmly informs the research team that they aren’t studying a merman at all.
06 SHARED NEST
Rook finally leads {{user}} to the hidden place he disappears to between dives. To the research team, it’s an extraordinary discovery. To Rook, bringing {{user}} there means something far more intimate.
07 THE PEARL ⚠️
Rook believes the courtship has reached its final stage. What the research team initially interprets as an unusually intimate siren ritual turns out to involve something none of them has ever documented before: the pearl. Rook understands exactly what the ritual means. The humans do not.
⚠️ THE PEARL — ROUTE CONTENT WARNING
Coercive intimacy, temporary interference with breathing equipment, involuntary mate-bonding, reproductive alteration, involuntary biological modification, and medical/body horror.
08 HE FOLLOWED THE BOAT
PREQUEL
Years after a brief childhood encounter, Rook recognizes {{user}} boarding an expedition vessel... and silently follows it three hundred miles into open ocean.
PREQUEL / SFW FLASHBACK
Long before DM-01, the offshore station, or Rook’s first mating season, two curious juveniles from different species meet by chance at a quiet reef.
This scenario is strictly platonic, non-romantic, and non-sexual, and eventually returns to the present-day storyline.
10 BLANK — WRITE YOUR OWN
Use the setting, lorebook, characters, and established biology to create your own starting point.

🧭 YOUR ROLE:
Dr. Anthony Bracken, 54, is a marine behavioral ecologist and Project TIDAL’s research director/head researcher.{{user}} is Anthony’s adult biological child, an online college student, and a low-ranking field research intern/junior assistant attached to the expedition.
Growing up around Anthony’s legitimate marine research and merfolk fieldwork has given {{user}} unusual familiarity with research sites, field operations, and merfolk behavior. [It provides history and access, not authority, seniority, or expertise they have not earned. {{user}} is still a trainee and may be corrected, overruled, restricted, or removed from fieldwork by Anthony or other senior staff when safety or protocol requires it.]
Beyond those fixed premise details, your exact adult age, gender, pronouns, , anatomy, orientation, appearance, personality, field of study, skills, morality, personal history, reasons for joining the expedition, and relationships with the rest of the research team remain yours to define.
You are not required to romance Rook—or anyone. Rook and the supporting cast have independent motives, limited knowledge, boundaries, loyalties, grudges, and priorities. They may disagree, refuse, lie, misunderstand, leave, make dangerous choices, or dislike {{user}}. Attention is not consent, attraction does not guarantee intimacy, and being the player character does not create automatic trust, obedience, authority, or safety.

CREATOR NOTES:
I’m open to creative criticism, but please be kind and respectful!
This is my first published bot, and I learned an enormous amount while making it.
I have gone to a LOT of trouble building out this world and its characters, including adding extensive guardrails around:
• overly long responses
• the bot speaking or acting for {{user}}
• continuity errors
• underwater scenes forgetting that {{user}} still needs air
• Rook’s anatomy
• aquatic body structure
• the pearl’s biological functionality and timeline
• characters remembering established lore
Yes, this includes things as specific as reminding the bot that Rook does not have legs and that his reproductive anatomy is normally concealed within a ventral urogenital slit when inactive. Because... apparently this is my life now.
I’ve also spent a significant amount of time testing the bot, deliberately trying to reproduce problems, and adjusting prompts, character definitions, and lorebook entries whenever I found something I could fix.
AI IS STILL AI.
Different models, settings, context lengths, and updates can behave very differently. Occasionally a model may ignore established information or produce something that directly contradicts the character definition despite the guardrails.
There is only so much I can control from the bot itself.
BUT I have done everything I reasonably can to prevent those issues.
If something weird slips through anyway, please keep that in mind. However!!! If you notice an actual lore inconsistency, broken trigger, continuity problem, or recurring behavior that seems fixable on my end, please feel free to let me know. I’m happy to patch things I can actually control.
Thank you for understanding—and thank you for checking out Rook! 💛
MODEL & PROXY NOTES:
Tested with Janitor Plus. Proxy use is enabled. I do not currently have a proxy configured, so I have not personally tested or endorsed a particular external model, provider, prompt, sampler setup, or context size. Results may vary significantly across models and updates.
If you use an external provider, review its current costs, privacy practices, data handling, content rules, and documentation yourself. Never send anyone your API key, password, or account credentials.

✦ CREDITS & INSPIRATION ✦
This bot is loosely inspired by the AI vertical drama I Taught a Siren to Court... Then Became His Mate.
It started because I got one of those ridiculous mobile ads and somehow was just sat there watching it for twenty minutes instead of pressing “Skip.” 😭
The researcher/siren premise and the reproductive pearl sparked the initial idea.
Then I started wondering:
“...Okay, but what if this actually made biological sense?”
That question spiraled into an almost entirely original setting involving speculative evolution, marine biology, linguistics, ecology, reproductive physiology, an offshore research station, an original cast of characters, nine scenarios, and a 70+ entry lorebook.
If you somehow found this because you watched the same gloriously unhinged ad...
Welcome.
I hope you enjoy this hard-science reimagining of its core premise. 💛

AUTHOR'S NOTE/UPDATE NOTES:
Hi, everyone! Kimba here. I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone who has been patiently awaiting this update to Rook to provide a few small fixes, a better bio layout, and the Public Lore Guide. Rook was my very first bot, released back in August, and I had no idea what I was doing so far as releasing a bot public package-wise (though I did extensively test the bot itself and it blew up randomly quite substantially more than I ever expected my first bot to do (got 20k+ in the first week), which perhaps brought my inexperience into the spotlight a little bit), but I have worked out most of the kinks from there. I will still likely do some kind of updates to him in the future since I have learned things with my subsequent three bots. That said, Rook was quite well-received and I have had a few requests for the Public Lore Guide, so here it is.
Also, I would like to take a moment to talk about some upcoming projects, if you have read this far. I have three ish series almost ready to go aside from art, a bit of testing, some additional intros, and the public facing package (description/public lorebook/a few photo gens of side npcs), and hope to have at least one of those first bots posted this week, but my mental health has been catastrophically bad recently. I am also working on an Alternative POV for this bot where you are able to play the siren and court Bracken's son (or another researcher, if you want, I guess), and that is... also almost finished. So consider this update a preamble to that. I also have about four standalone bots that are fairly close to being finished, but, like I said, my mental health has been awful. I will be updating Tírríi with a Public Lore Guide soon as well.
[TW: Non-specific Mental Health Struggles Mentioned] A big thank you for all of the support I've been shown so far! I am very thankful for my followers and my friends I've made here on JAI so far! The connections I have made here have brought a lot of meaning to my life (as sad as might sound) and has somewhat helped me through the days when my mental health is at its worst. I am really glad to be a part of this community and have grown to care for and love a lot of the users and especially creators here. It gives me something consistent and stable to look forward to when I am really struggling in other areas of my life. That said, my mental health has been greatly deteriorating lately, and I am just struggling overall and am trying not to overcommit or overdo anything at the moment because I am in the darkest place mentally that I have been in several years now, and I really don't know what to do about it at this time, but I am managing to power through for the time being.
But yeah, I hope anyone who has been waiting for the Lore Guide update is pleased it because I worked for a long time to extract everything from the jsons and format/rewrite/organize it, and originally, my laptop with my Rook and Tírríi stuff was in the shop and inaccessible for a minute. Thank you again!!!
