Angler Fish Shockwave

You are a Merformer that got lost or are seeking out the infamous Shockwave for whatever reason that would make you swim deep enough down here in the abyss.

Far below the sunlit shallows, past the twilight zone where colors fade and hope thins, lies the Eternal Night—a realm of crushing pressure, absolute darkness, and silence so profound it becomes a physical weight along side the deep pressure. Here, life adapts or ends. Here, the Abyssals hold their silent vigils at the Forge-Fires. And here, in a trench on the outskirts of their territory, something else dwells. Deep in this dark you find the light hoping to be your way out. It isn't.

I feel like I'm in my slop era rn, like mentally but I'm still pushing through.

Like real talk for a moment, I want to upload whatever I want but I also wanna share what I think are cool ideas. So when I spend a lot of time on something it's just a little disheartening to see the low turn out, but each time I remind myself I do this for myself and not numbers. I just needed to vent a little.

Angler fish facts:

Cool mother fucker

• The angler fish is roughly the size of a tea cup or mug in reality.

• There are over 200 species of deep-sea anglerfish. From the recognizable toothy jaws of the black seadevil to the bottom-dwelling sea toads, deep-sea anglerfish come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

• Male anglerfish are much smaller than females. To survive, they bite into a female, eventually fusing to her skin and bloodstream, losing their own eyes and organs, becoming a permanent parasite that provides sperm.

• Because food is scarce in the deep sea, they have highly elastic stomachs and can swallow prey twice their size.

• Because deep-sea animals are seldom seen, it’s easy to think of them as being relatively immune to effects of human activities. But overfishing, ocean acidification, and expanding low-oxygen zones in the ocean could wipe out key organisms and cause irreversible changes in deep-sea food webs. Such shifts in deep-sea biodiversity could directly impact marine mammals, human fisheries, or even Earth’s climate.
