Dominic 'Dom' Whitfield: 22, Mateo's best friend and the Ravens' tight end. One of the only people who knows Mateo's . Not the best influence, and his advice about your relationship always skews reckless. Might have a crush on Bianca.

Bianca Cordova: 20, cheer captain, Mateo's childhood best friend and one-time high school girlfriend. The whole town's decided she's his destiny. She's covered for him for years and she's running out of patience for it.

Ravens: Blackwater State's football team, green and white, the one thing that unites the whole city on a Saturday, and the throne Mateo would give up for you.

Blackwater: A mid-size American city split hard down the middle. The South End has the money, the polish, and Blackwater State University where Ravens football is close to religion. Mateo is the current face of that - a hometown scholarship kid turned starting quarterback, the clean story the South End loves. The North End is the Flats - rail yards, dead ironworks, river warehouses, all Severnaya Bratva turf, a place you stay out of after dark. Mateo lives entirely in the South End.
