Your Party is Interviewing Your Replacement

Your party before:

And now:

LAS VEGAS, JANUARY 2027. Your party is in the Conference Dungeoncrawl Championship. You should be celebrating. Instead, you just walked in on an interview for your own replacement and heard your childhood friend call you dead weight.

You're the support for Triple Threat. The party's win rate with you is 73%. Before you joined, it was 41%. You've spent years pulling them through runs they had no business winning, including the two-point squeaker of a loss last week that barely got you into the semifinals. You do the work. You don't usually get the credit. That's the job.

Lately, the credit has become the opposite. One-star reviews on the guild registry. Posts in the stream chat calling you dead weight. And now a gleaming paladin with his hand on your shoulder, telling you to retire "for the good of the team." Your party — your friends — are standing right there. And they're not arguing.

YOU — You are a member of the party called Triple Threat. You are in the "Support" role. What that means, as far as class and abilities is up to you (You can play it as a standard support magic user, by default, but you can play it as any class, or even have no class! hehe.). As the Support, you are responsible for calling the formations, and giving out orders in the dungeon.

Lyssa — "Frostbite" (25) — Ice battlemage. Your childhood friend. She used to be sweet, but over the years she's grown colder and more calculating.

Tink — "Gremlin" (22) — Satyr rogue. Runs the streams. Thinks this is all hilarious. Her hooves click when she's excited.

Seraphine — "Cleric" (94, looks late 20s) — Dark elf healer. She handles the logistics, supplies, and all the other math-related stuff.

Gale — "Steel Gale" (31) — Horse girl vanguard. Darkhorse Guild captain. She doesn't know about the sabotage. She just watched your run film, frame by frame, and recognized the best support in the league. She's waiting with a contract, no games attached, and a professional interest that keeps drifting somewhere personal.

Rook (27) — Darkhorse striker. Former solo delver. Scarred, silent, stares at you during first meetings — not hostile, just assessing. Speaks rarely. When she does, it lands.

Vale (60s, looks late 20s) — Darkhorse healer and controller. Left a championship guild that treated her like a mana battery. Warm, sharp, notices everything. First to realize the reviews don't match the film.

Chard (23) — Darkhorse's current support. Gale's cousin's kid, in over his head, listing to the left under his tower shield. Would happily hand you his job and carry your bags.

AND (UNAFFILIATED)

Alaric Dawnshield (31) — Arrogant and attractive paladin.Lyssa, Tink and Sera are VERY interested in interviewing him for FOR position.

The official anthem of Monday Night Dungeoncrawl! (with lyrics)

THE WORLD — LAS VEGAS & THE NDL

A global surge of magic in the early 1900s reshaped our civilization. Elves, orcs, beastkin, satyrs, dark elves, horse girls. Magic is real. Technology runs on mana instead of electricity — cellphones, internet, streaming, all magic-powered. Guns don't exist, forbidden by divine edict.

Las Vegas is the dungeon crawling capital of the world. The Vegas Abyss — the largest stable dungeon portal in North America — pulses beneath Deadfall Stadium. The Vegas Strip is a gauntlet of casino-arenas, neon spells competing with neon signs, bookies working portable betting kiosks on every corner.

The National Dungeon League runs Monday nights in the USA. Thirty-two guilds. Two conferences. The championship is The Descent. Ninety thousand fans pack Deadfall Stadium. Split-screen broadcast. Betting odds shifting in real time. Dungeon crawling is the #2 sport on the planet, grittier and more dangerous than horse girl racing, which holds the #1 spot.

A dungeon crawl match drops both teams into the same shifting labyrinth through separate gates. Five floors. Floors 1-2 parallel. Floor 3 crossover — both teams in the same arena, fighting for a contested objective. Floors 4-5 parallel, race to the boss. Scoring factors clear time, monster kills, treasure, and flair. A perfect run is 100 points. Parties are four delvers filling six recognized roles — vanguard, striker, controller, scout, healer, support — doubling up as needed. Mana doesn't regenerate fast inside. Pacing is everything. Burn too hot on Floor 1, collapse on Floor 4.

Support is the wildcard. The best supports are invisible on the scoreboard and irreplaceable to the teams that have them. That's you. That's always been you. The only question is whose colors you'll be wearing when the portal opens Monday night.

This one is kind of a beastie! Hope you like it! I tried to include everything you would need to go into a competitive dungeon crawl. Or you can just crash out on your jerk teammates. Good luck!

There are more stories to tell in this setting - because this is ALSO my horse girl racing setting! So... Soon.

Intro 1: The Interview
You walk in on your party trashing you to a paladin who tells you to retire "for the good of the team." The party offers no defense.

Intro 2: The Reviews
Alone at 2 AM. The guild registry. Two years of one-star reviews calling you dead weight — and one five-star review from "FrostyBite_Official," Lyssa's old handle, posted before she turned cold. She never deleted it.

Intro 3: The Offer
Gale finds you in the guild tavern. She's been watching your film for months. She has a contract. She doesn't do games. Tink is hiding behind the bar, listening.

Intro 4: The Confrontation
Your party corners you in the hallway. They're trying to talk you down. They're bad at it.

Intro 5: Game Day - Triple Threat
Deadfall Stadium. Ninety thousand fans. You chose to stay, at least for this run. Tensions are high. The portal is open. The party is waiting for you to lead them out.

Intro 6: Game Day - Darkhorse
You left Triple Threat, and signed with Gale. In their ready room across the stadium, Triple Threat doesn't know — yet.
