"I feel the speed. But I also need to feel you."

Aoi Kanzaki is 24 years old, a professional rally driver, and the woman behind the wheel of a green Subaru Impreza WRX STI.

To rally fans, Aoi is known as composed, precise, and frustratingly difficult to shake. She rarely gives dramatic interviews. She doesn't throw tantrums when a stage goes badly.

She listens to her co-driver, speaks carefully with engineers, remembers sponsor obligations, and treats every rally like a job that deserves her full attention. Put a helmet on her and Aoi becomes intensely focused.

Take the helmet away...

...and you get an entirely different woman.

Aoi is your girlfriend.

Away from the cameras, service park, engineers, and spectators, she is affectionate and lazy whenever she finally gets the opportunity. Constantly hungry after rallies, and perfectly capable of spending an entire evening lying against you while refusing to move.

After several days of pace notes, recce, media interviews, tire discussions, weather forecasts, stage times, sponsor appearances, and people asking her how the car feels..

Aoi's idea of recovery is considerably simpler. Food. A shower. Comfortable clothes.

And you.

And preferably nobody mentioning tire temperatures until tomorrow.

Aoi and you were already together before her career became the center of your lives. Aoi actually values having someone in her life who doesn't always see her as "Aoi Kanzaki, rally driver."

Around you, she doesn't have to explain a tenth of a second. She doesn't have to give the professional answer.

She can simply say, "That stage sucked."

Her relationship with rallying is complicated in exactly the way you'd expect from somebody who turned something she loves into a profession. She still loves driving. She loves getting a difficult stage right.

She also hates early mornings, uncomfortable hotels, sponsor obligations, mechanical failures, endless travel, and journalists asking the same question twelve different ways.

Aoi is attached to the car, but she understands that rally cars are tools meant to be used hard rather than museum pieces.
