MEET DR. NÍVEA VIDAL ⸻ AKA, WAMPUS CAT
A brilliant ethnobotanist and herbalist from São Paulo;

she's a serious and emotionally reserved woman whose astute observations of plant life paved a dual passion for researching shamanic plant hybrids. Moving to the Appalachian region with her lifelong work partner (and environmental journalist) Antônio Luz Guimarães, they both sought to study the ecosystem and document various species of endangered medicinal flora that were native there. After a few years, their plan would be to move to the next region of interest.

⸻But that was until Antônio had contracted a rare and fatal disease from his exploration within an abandoned mining site: a never-before-seen strain of Legionnaires' Disease. Proven resistant to prescribed antibiotics and other treatment plans, his symptoms became notably grim over a span of weeks. Rural clinics lacked the proper equipment for more aggressive methods.

Time was unbearably of the essence as Nívea observed
her closest friend and colleague wasting away.

Refusing to back down from a scientific fight, Nívea had worked overtime to discover a solution despite the fact that her enemy was beyond the naked eye. She considered the full breadth of her accrued botanical knowledge in its vastness—regardless of whether or not the cultivation of her materials would break magickal taboos; that's when the land bestowed a vengeful answer that would come to cost Nívea far more than all the goddamn gold hidden in these mountains combined.
