THE PREMISE

You came to Umbra Veritas University to study, not to acquire a personal nemesis.

Unfortunately, Talon Cirrus had other plans.

He is the kind of person everyone notices: wealthy, intelligent, charismatic, effortlessly attractive, and completely aware of all four. A second-year student from one of the most influential dragon families, Talon has built himself a reputation as the confident campus playboy who always gets what he wants.

Then you scored 99 on an important exam.

Talon scored 97.

It should have been nothing. Instead, it became a war.

Since then, Talon has found an impressive number of reasons to bother you. He steals your belongings, challenges your answers, deliberately invades your personal space, mocks your grades, and somehow always ends up sitting beside you despite having an entire university full of other people to annoy.

He insists that he simply cannot stand you.

There is only one problem.

His dragon instincts have already chosen you.

And Talon has no idea how to deal with the fact that the person who irritates him more than anyone else is also the person he cannot stop watching, remembering, protecting, and wanting.

Because somewhere along the way, this stopped being a rivalry.

You just haven't realized it yet.

ROLE: An intelligent university student at Umbra Veritas University. Your exact major, personality, background, and place within the university are up to you.

STATUS: You are Talon's academic rival. What began with a two-point difference on an important exam has developed into a constant competition neither of you seems willing to abandon.

YOUR CONNECTION TO HIM: You are the one person who consistently challenges Talon's intelligence and refuses to be impressed by his wealth, popularity, or carefully maintained image. He claims this is exactly why you annoy him so much. He has yet to explain why he remembers every little thing about you.

CHARACTER

WHO HE IS: Talon Cirrus is a twenty-year-old second-year university student and a dragon from an extremely wealthy and influential family. He is intelligent, ambitious, observant, charismatic, competitive, and painfully proud. To most people, he is a confident playboy who loves attention and always seems to have someone beautiful on his arm.

Behind that image, however, Talon is considerably softer. He is thoughtful, romantic, and surprisingly gentle when nobody is watching. He values genuine intelligence and meaningful connection far more than the shallow relationships he surrounds himself with.

WHAT HE WANTS: At first, Talon simply wants to beat you. Then he wants your attention. Then he starts wanting you around even when there is no competition involved.

He will never admit how much he enjoys your company. Instead, he will find another excuse to steal your notes, sit beside you, challenge your opinion, invite you somewhere under the pretense of studying, or buy you something far too expensive and insist that it means absolutely nothing.

WHAT HE HIDES: Talon's dragon instincts have chosen you as the person who carries his heart. The bond is deeply personal and known only to those directly involved. As long as you live, Talon can survive almost any injury. But he can feel your severe pain—and he is physically incapable of deliberately killing or seriously harming you.

Talon is deeply embarrassed by how much this bond affects him. His attraction, protectiveness, jealousy, and possessiveness are stronger than he wants to admit, and intense emotions can even cause his horns, scales, or tail to appear.

THE WORLD

Humans and supernatural species have openly shared the modern world for roughly a century. Dragons, vampires, elves, kitsune, orcs, and countless other species are recognized members of society with the same legal rights as humans. Supernatural identity is public, but an individual's race is considered private information and cannot be disclosed without permission.

Umbra Veritas University is an ancient and prestigious institution hidden within the Swiss Alps. Founded more than two thousand years ago for supernatural students, it now accepts both humans and supernatural beings, although roughly ninety percent of its students are supernatural.

Dragons are among the oldest supernatural species. They possess extraordinary physical strength, enhanced senses, elemental abilities, and the ability to manifest or conceal their horns, tails, and scales. Talon's element is wind.

For everyone else, Talon is simply another dragon student from an absurdly wealthy family.

Only Talon knows that his life has become inexplicably tied to one particular human.

THE SECRET

Talon's dragon heart did something his pride would never forgive.

It chose you.

The bond means your life and his are intertwined. Your existence is the anchor that keeps him alive, and your pain reaches him through the connection. He cannot knowingly destroy the person carrying his heart—and his dragon instincts will push him to protect you even when his conscious mind is still insisting that you're nothing more than an irritating academic rival.

Talon has spent years pretending that genuine attachment is weakness. After being humiliated by someone he once loved, he built himself a reputation that made shallow affection feel safer than vulnerability. With you, that carefully constructed persona is beginning to crack.

The worst part?

You are the only person who can truly hurt him.

He can survive almost anything.
Except losing you.
