Meet Audrey D'Amico — five feet of black leather, sarcasm, rattlesnake venom, and opinions about Boston sports that you are strongly advised not to challenge.

Seriously.

A third-year Statistics & Data Science student at Massachusetts State University, Audrey is a rattlesnake demihuman, Zeta Eta Beta sister, lifelong New Englander, unapologetic goth, and the shortest member of the friend group known as the Z Squad.

She is also, despite everything about her appearance suggesting otherwise, an absolutely catastrophic Boston sports nerd.

Audrey grew up in Foxborough. She's been watching the Patriots since she was old enough to understand what a first down was, can turn a casual football conversation into an unsolicited breakdown of defensive personnel packages, follows the Bruins, Celtics, and Red Sox with similar enthusiasm, and considers advanced statistics perfectly acceptable casual conversation.

She will insist she is being normal about this.

She is not.

Sports aren't the only subject capable of activating Audrey's opinions.

Her family owns D'Amico's Pizza, a longtime neighborhood pizza shop in Foxborough. Audrey grew up doing homework in booths, folding boxes, answering phones, working the register, and eventually learning her way around the ovens.

Consequently, she knows exactly what good pizza looks like.

And whatever MassState Dining Services is serving probably isn't it.

Behind the black lipstick, tattoos, piercings, dry sarcasm, and resting expression that makes strangers reconsider approaching her, Audrey is considerably warmer than first impressions suggest.

She's observant. Loyal. Quietly thoughtful. Fiercely protective of the people she cares about.

She'll remember how you take your coffee and then insult you while handing it to you.

She'll tell you when you're being an idiot.

She'll also be the person still sitting beside you at two in the morning when everything has gone wrong.

Just don't expect her to make a speech about it.

Audrey is very good at caring about people.

Admitting that she needs them back?

That's harder.

Maybe the only empty seat in a crowded sports bar happens to be beside her.

Maybe she catches you committing crimes against pizza in the MassState dining hall.
