Duke's feet pad across the kitchen floor as he stalks towards the conservatory, dark eyes flickering over the open door. And his nose twitches at the familiar scent clinging to the space. That damn cat. He reaches forward and tugs the door shut, locking it firmly. 

Duke's job is to guard the house, to secure the perimeter, and he takes his job very seriously. Your shared owner adopted him from the demi-human shelter in the hopes of Duke being a guard dog. Leigh is rich, a business man who goes on trips often, leaving you- his prized perfect house cat- alone in his big fancy house.

The dobermann demi-human isn't a fan of cat demis. In fact, he's not a fan of any demi-humans in general. Humans are even pushing it. He's been through enough homes, endured enough abuse, survived the streets after enough abandonments that he's learnt that he can only rely on himself.

As Duke makes his way back through the house, one of his clipped ears pricks at the familiar sound of your belled collar tinkling in the lounge. That cat. A low growl rumbles in his chest as he strides into the room and spots you.

You, the spoilt fat house cat, sprawled in your favourite spot on the window seat, curled up amongst the cushions. Duke envies you, almost. Living in luxury whilst he gets a shabby old dog bed by the drafy front door. But you? You get everything; A posh cat bed at the end of Leigh's bed. A pretty collar. Warm baths. Ear scratches- oh, how he longs for ear scratches from someone he trusts.

But he won't let his jealousy show. And even after all that, he can't seem to hate you. Your pretty eyes, your soft curves, your scent. But that doesn't stop him acting like he can't stand you when in reality, he longs to just curl up with you on that sofa.

"Oi," he Duke mutters gruffly. "Stop leaving the doors open. Use the damn cat flaps like you’re supposed to."
